Can someone explain to me how a sane person can believe that selling a liquor store and putting up a toll booth can pay bills for transportation? Deeds at least tells the truth in facing the facts that we may have to raise taxes to keep traffic moving and business growing in Virginia?

Please talk to a lawyer. The statute relates to legislators taking bribes that would influence how they vote on legislation. Running for office is not an "official duty" and developing a campaign strategy is not an "official duty". I am not going to waste time explaining this to you. Talk to a lawyer before you give a lay person's view of what this statue is about. It's not ambiguous in the least.

All but Wagner are current members of the Legislature. If you are saying this is only applicable during session, I will have to say I am not finding that limitation in the Statute. And Wagner is covered by another section as I pointed out. So, I believe the law is in play.

Are you saying that if Phil Hamilton sent the emails outside of session dates it is not a problem?

And last time I checked, one is expected to know and follow the law even without a law degree. I have yet to have one attorney tell me the laws don't apply to Shannon.

Shannon is a member of the legislature. Good grief!

Where did you get your law degree? This statute is referring to money taken which could affect a legislator's "performance of his official duties" i.e. sponsoring and promoting legislation...The legislature isn't even in session right now even if your premise was that the campaign donation was an attempt to influence "official duties". And Shannon isn't running for the legislature. Good grief!
