Sundown will be the operative word for Democrats in the 2010 elections. Who better than Gordon Lightfoot to deliver the timeless message to Nancy Pelosi.
Sundown lyrics (With Comments)
I can see her lyin’
back in her satin dress
in a room where ya do
what ya don’t confess
(Like the backroom deals and threats to get ObamaCare passed)
Sundown ya better take care
if I find you been creepin’
’round my back stairs
(Or around my bank account)
(repeat)
She’s been lookin’ like a
queen in a sailor’s dream
And she don’t always say
what she really means
(Drag Queen and a liar)
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
when I get feelin’ better
when I’m feelin’ no pain
(Just how much booze have our Tax Dollars bought on Pelosi One?)
(repeat)
I can picture every move
that a man could make
Getting lost in her lovin’
is your first mistake
(Just listening to Pelosi and the Democrats was a mistake)
Sundown ya better take care
if I find you been creepin’
’round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it’s a sin
when I feel like I’m winnin’
when I’m losin again
(Creeping? Check. Unemployment through the roof, but Obama says we are moving in the right direction. Losing again!)
(instrumental)
I can see her lookin’ fast
in her faded jeans
She’s a hard lovin’ woman
got me feelin’ mean
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
when I get feelin’ better
when I’m feelin’ no pain
Sundown ya better take care
if I find you been creepin’
’round my back stairs
(repeat)
Sometimes I think it’s a sin
when I feel like I’m winnin’
when I’m losin’ again

Recently a liberal PAC called ‘Back to Basics’ ran advertisements across 25 Texas newspapers calling Governor Rick Perry a coward for refusing to debate challenger Bill White. http://www.click2houston.com/video/24748017/index.html But Bryan Preston, Communications Director for the Republican Party of Texas , clarified the Governor’s position and placed the spotlight on ‘Back to Basics’, which is funded by the incoming President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Steve Mostyn. It’s an interesting tale of big-money, insider politics, and influence peddling Texas style .

Well, before getting to the answer for that question, I probably need to tell you who Ciro Rodriguez is. Basically, he’s Pelosi’s lackey in southwest Texas. He’s a Democrat Congressman, hailing from Texas’ 23rd Congressional District (until Quico Canseco beats him in November, anyway). You might recall that about a month ago, he went nuts and slapped a table when a constituent challenged his lack of understanding of Obamacare, which he had voted for. It may be that that video is having more far reaching effects on his campaign than Ciro is letting on. His campaign web site seems to have gone belly up. Click on cirorodriguez.com and see…nothing. Well, other than a generic page that’ll eventually pop up with helpful instructions on how to build a web site in minutes! Que pasa, Ciro?

Although there are some $400,000,000,000 Stimulus dollars of the $820,000,000,000 already ‘appropriated’, Nancy Pelosi summoned her henchpersons to Washington today for a two pronged mission. Mission One: Steal another $2,000,000,000 Sorry, $26,000,000,000 from future Americans (let’s not kid ourselves here, we’re not paying for it. Kids and embryos will shoulder this burden) and pay off the Teachers unions, Firefighters unions and other public sector unions to make sure that they muscle their drones to the polls in November. Mission Two: To provide cover for congresscritters who SHOULD be in their home districts answering to the people, but were given the opportunity to flee in order to vote on this important legislation. Maybe THIS was Mission One. The Bill with No Name passed 247-161 today. Regardless, for those in Virginia keeping score, that would be a YES vote from congressmen Perriello, Nye, Scott, Boucher, Connolly

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called members of the House of Representatives back to Washington from their districts today to pass what the Democrat leadership considers a priority—a $26 billion bailout for teachers unions and spendthrift state governments. This is, of course, on top of recent spending on bailouts, the massive, unpopular health care bill, unemployment benefits, the $862 billion stimulus bill, and a host of other things, contributing to a record $1.4 trillion deficit and a national debt exceeding $13 trillion.
As Politico explained last week, “Even though party leaders expect that approval will be a slam-dunk, some early responses from rank-and-file Democrats have raised red flags about the optics of returning to a special session to vote on more spending — even if it’s framed as saving teachers’ jobs. The risk for Democrats as they seek to bolster their flagging election prospects is that some of their vulnerable members will feel like they have to walk the plank, yet again, on a politically unpopular economic-stimulus agenda, while reminding voters of their failure to handle routine budget work this year.”
Democrats have been touting the bill as a “jobs bill,” but in an editorial last week, The Washington Post correctly tagged it as, at its core, a bailout for teachers unions. “The crusade for an education jobs bill, led by the Obama administration and Democratic leaders in Congress, has always struck us as more of an election-year favor for teachers unions than an optimal use of public resources. Billed as an effort to stimulate the economy, it’s not clearly more effective than alternative uses of the cash. Yes, school budgets are tight across the country, but the teacher layoff ‘crisis’ is exaggerated. In fact, as happens each year, many teachers who got pink slips in the spring have been notified that they’ll be hired after all. Many layoffs could have been — and indeed have been — avoided by modest union concessions.”
Democrats are also bragging that the bill is paid for, but haven’t spent much time explaining how it’s paid for. Of course, Democrats can’t seem to pay for a bill without raising taxes, so the bill features tax hikes on certain corporations. But in addition, as a New York Times editorial pointed out Saturday, the bill also takes money from food stamp programs: “With some shabby sleight of hand, Congress has begun tapping into the food stamp program for the hungriest Americans to help pay for lawmakers’ higher election-year priorities. The Senate approved two important measures this week — the $26 billion state-aid bill and the $4.5 billion school nutrition program — in part by shaving food stamp funds as a target of least resistance.”
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell boiled down just what this latest bailout bill is all about in a speech last week. “[T]he purpose of this bill is clear. It’s a last-minute effort by Democrats in Washington to funnel more money to the public employee unions before an election and to set the stage for the massive tax hike that the administration plans to spring on America’s small business owners on January 1 of next year. Once again, Democrats are showering money on their favored constituencies and asking the American people to pay for it with higher taxes, more government, and fewer private sector jobs.”

Reid and Pelosi Starv Children to Pay Teachers Union
The Democrats have literally taken food out of the mouths of children to pay teachers in an obvious payback for supporting their liberal agenda.
Democrats in the Senate decided saving Union Teaching jobs was more important than feeding the pupils they will teach. Harry Reid forced the Senate to vote on a bill that robs the Food Stamp program of $12 Billion with the proceeds going to pay teachers and avoid layoffs of onr of the unions that has given massive support to Obama and the Democrats.
Nancy Pelosi has decided to interrupt the summer vacations of House members to speed up the process of starving children to pay Union Fat Cats.
According to The Hill:
It isn’t as urgent that Congress approve the Medicaid funding, since that portion of the package approves payments that would be disbursed beginning in January.
“The House must pass this bill with no changes as soon as possible,” AFSCME legislative affairs specialist Linda Bennett wrote in a memo obtained by The Hill.
“Please call offices of allies and those who had deficit concerns with the tax extender bill. We need support for this [soon-to-be] Senate-passed bill to move quickly in the House,” Bennett wrote in the memo, which circulated Wednesday on K Street.
Republicans might object to passing the legislation in August, which could affect its estimated cost. A Congressional Budget Office score assumed the bill would not become law until mid-September.
Michael Steel, spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), criticized the Democrats’ talks.
“The American people don’t want more ‘stimulus’ spending — particularly spending for labor unions attached to a job-killing tax increase. Democrats would be better off listening to their constituents, who are asking, ‘Where are the jobs?’ rather than returning to Washington, D.C., to vote for more tax hikes and special-interest bailouts,” Steel said.

Virginia’s Congressman Eric Cantor has come a long way, and most believe he has a long way yet to go. As Minority Whip for House Republicans, Cantor has proven time and again he has what it takes to demand responsible government, and the ability to get the Republican votes in line when it comes time to just say no the the reckless spending and social programs that the Democrats are thrusting on an unwilling public. It stands to reason that this same talent will become useful in correcting the horrendous mistakes of the Obama Administration and the Democrats.
This has not come without a personal price for Cantor. The left has elevated him to most hated status, and the attacks seem to be never ending. But this is merely a badge of honor to those that support Virginia’s rising star. Most would not want it any other way.
While some have taken issue with Cantor in the past, to those that pay attention, the Congressman is the wall that stands between a path to ruin the Democrats have us on, and the path to restore America to prosperity.
Cantor is logical and methodical in addition to being one of the brightest leaders in the country. It is this logic that utterly confounds the liberals and elevates him to chief thorn in their side. Cantor is the master at the calm reasoning that drives the liberals mad.
It will take a special person to bring this country back from the abyss that Obama has led us into. What a refreshing change Eric Cantor would be from the illogical and out of touch Nancy Pelosi.
Eric Cantor is the right man at the right time to lead America.
Here is a pretty good piece on Congressman Cantor from NBC 29 in Charlottesville. Please do not miss the link to the video at the bottom of this post.
From NBC 29 in Charlottesville, Va:
Eric Cantor’s political savvy and ambition have political analysts speculating about his next position in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Virginia has long been a launching pad for politicians with national ambitions. After all, the state has produced more U.S. presidents than any other, and it could be on track to produce the next speaker of the House.
Throughout the marble hallways of Virginia’s State Capitol are photos of each new group of legislators. If you look closely at the class of 1992, you will find the eager young face of a new delegate: Eric Cantor.
“When I was a delegate and had the privilege of representing the 73rd district in the House of Delegates, you know, I learned a great deal,” said the Republican representative.
Now, nearly 20 years later, Cantor is among the most powerful people in Washington. But he says he still takes lessons from the Virginia General Assembly.
“Washington really, really could use a dose of wisdom from the way that body works,” Cantor said.
Cantor is the GOP whip, the second-most powerful Republican in the House behind Minority Leader John Boehner. The 7th District congressman took his leadership role in 2008, and since then has been one of his party’s most visible figures, particularly in criticizing President Obama and his policies.
“We have to be able to stand up for our principles and the people that elect us,” said Cantor.
As talk increases that Republicans could take back control of the House in November, there is also chatter about Cantor’s ambition and whether he could become the first Jewish speaker of the House.
“There’s no doubt he’s got a lot of ambition,” said NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd. “The question is, how quickly can he get to the speakership.”

(Washington, D.C.) Today, U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi petitioning her support for the House Tea Party Caucus currently awaiting approval by the Committee on House Administration.
The text of the letter is below:
July 16, 2010
The Honorable Nancy Pelosi
Speaker
U.S. House of Representatives
H-232, Capitol Building
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Madam Speaker,
On Thursday, July 15, 2010, I submitted the appropriate materials to the Committee on House Administration to register the House Tea Party Caucus as a Congressional Member Organization for the 111th Congress.
In conversations my staff had with the Committee, some concerns were voiced that this caucus may face roadblocks due to the perceived political nature of the label “Tea Party.”
That is why I am writing to petition your support on this endeavor. As Members of Congress, we have an obligation to represent the views of our constituents, and this Caucus would do nothing more than promote the timeless principles of our founding, principles that all Members of Congress have sworn to uphold.
The Tea Party Caucus is strictly issue based in nature, promoting policies of fiscal responsibility and limited government with a strict adherence to our Constitution at the forefront. By rejecting such an organization, we would be silencing the voices, values and principles held dear by millions of Americans.
The Tea Party movement has become synonymous with these principles, and a caucus taking these values to heart would work to advance them. I ask that you and your leadership support our efforts and give us the same consideration and approval that you have given to the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, Congressional Apparel Manufacturing and Fashion Business Caucus, the Congressional Shellfish Caucus, and Congressional Songwriter Caucus, among others.
I encourage you to join me on this initiative, and hope we can work together to advance the enduring principles of our founding.
Sincerely,
Michele Bachmann
Member of Congress

Virginia's Nancy Boys - Perriello, Connolly, Moran, Nye
It is becoming quite amusing watching Virginia’s Nancy Boys Tom Perriello, Gerry Connolly, James Moran and Glenn Nye try to run from the far left fringe of the likes of Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
It takes a special kind of person to vote with a Speaker that believes unemployment is the fastest way to create jobs. Talk about shucking and jiving.
Glenn Nye was the only Virginia Democrat to vote against the Obamacare bill, but don’t think for one minute this lets him off the hook for the rest of his votes to “spread the wealth”. Nye happens to be in a conservative area and knows the people of the district were overwhelmingly against this government takeover of health care. This one vote does not make Nye responsive, it makes him dishonest. His vote was cast against Obamacare not because it was the will of the people and the right thing to do, but in hopes of being reelected, so he can continue supporting the Progressive agenda.
This is a rundown of the for Nancy Boys that Virginia needs to send back home.
Gerry Connolly – Votes with Nancy Pelosi 97% of the time.
On May 20, 2010, Connolly told the Washington Post: “Let me get this straight: If you think I can’t win, you’re not going to spend political capital on me, even though I spill buckets of blood for you? The White House can’t be [keeping] distance from people who have walked the plank for them, even when they might lose. Loyalty matters in this business.”
Connolly’s Republican opponent Keith Fimian says it best:
“There is no question Gerry Connolly is a loyal subordinate of Pelosi and Obama. Connolly is right to be concerned that he has spilled blood for the Obama and Pelosi. He has blindly followed Democratic leaders, routinely voting for policies highly unpopular with his constituents and destructive to our nation’s future,” Fimian said. “In fact, Connolly has voted with Pelosi 97 percent of the time, including for the $1.3 trillion government healthcare takeover, the $832 billion failed stimulus and the job-killing ‘cap-and-trade’ energy tax scheme, all of which are highly unpopular with Northern Virginians.”
“As is typical of career politicians, Gerry Connolly is only concerned with advancing his own political career by voting repeatedly for bad legislation solely to get into the good graces of
Democratic political leaders despite the wishes of his constituents to the contrary,” Fimian said.
Tom Perriello – Votes with Nancy Pelosi 89.8%
Perriello’s Republican Opponent Robert Hurt says of Nancy Boy Perriello:
In just his first term, Perriello voted for government-run healthcare legislation that will cut Medicare by $500 billion and drive our country further into debt. Tom Perriello voted for a national energy tax that would kill small businesses and bankrupt the Fifth District in terms of what we so desperately need right now – jobs. We can’t afford two more years of Tom Perriello.
In virtually every instance, Perriello has ignored the interests of his 5th District constituents in order to serve the agendas of Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in Washington.
Glenn Nye Low Lights:
From Hot Political News:
Scott Rigell, Republican candidate in Virginia’s Second Congressional District, called on Democratic freshman incumbent Congressman Glenn Nye to return the campaign contributions he has received from disgraced former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-New York). Congressman Rangel is being investigated by the House ethics committee for a wide range of alleged ethical violations, including failing to report on required federal disclosure forms several hundred thousand dollars of income, failing to pay taxes on a vacation home in the Dominican Republic, misuse of a New York City rent-controlled apartment for political purposes, and violating House rules when traveling to a Caribbean vacation conference in 2007 and 2008.
Rangel has already been formally admonished by the House ethics committee for violating ethical rules related to the receipt of gifts. Earlier this week, he temporarily stepped aside as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee until the ethics investigation concludes.
James Moran takes Lunacy to a new level according to NationalReview:
With Virginia congressman Jim Moran’s recent complaints that Jews are pushing America into war with Iraq, House Democrats appear to have found their replacement for their previous King of Controversy, Jim Traficant (who is currently serving an eight-year prison term for bribery, racketeering, and income-tax evasion).
At an antiwar forum in Reston, Va., Moran contended that the U.S. would not be considering military action against Iraq “if it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war… The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should.”
Moran quickly apologized, although — as Ramesh Ponnuru has pointed out — whether the congressman has bias in his heart is less important than the fact that in his worldview, Jewish Americans alone can determine America’s choice between war and peace.
“I made some insensitive remarks that I deeply regret,” Moran said. “I should not have singled out the Jewish community and regret giving any impression that its members are somehow responsible for the course of action being pursued by the administration, or are somehow behind an impending war.”

Clueless in DC
If you missed the press conference where Nancy Pelosi made the ridiculous claim that unemployment checks are an economic stimulus and they create jobs, it is embedded below for your review.
The fatal flaw in Pelosi’s reasoning is the incorrect belief that unemployment checks stimulate. While she is correct that the money is quickly spent, which is the basic and necessary requirement of any government effort to stimulate the economy with free money, she also states the money “is needed for families to survive, and it is spent”. That much is true, however, a stimulus must be over and above the minimum spending required for survival. Otherwise it is merely basic sustenance, not stimulus.
A stimulus, by definition, creates spending above the baseline. An economy in decline, as we now have, requires stimulation over and above the baseline.
Any family surviving on unemployment is spending less than when employed. There is no discretionary spending, only basic survival. There are no visits to restaurants, no home beautification projects to keep jobs at Home Depot, no extras. Period.
Unemployment Insurance is Insurance
Unemployment insurance is insurance. The purpose of insurance is to indemnify, or make whole. The objective of any type of insurance is never to leave you “better off”, but to leave you the same. Unemployment Insurance fails miserably at indemnification. It will not even come close to replacing your income, let alone benefits. You will always be far worse off. (And this is a prime example of why government “single payer” health care is a BAD idea.)
If your auto insurance company decided to replace your brand new BMW, which you totaled, with a 1995 BMW, you are not indemnified. You are screwed.
But this is exactly how government provided unemployment insurance works. Except in most cases the BMW is replaced with an old bicycle.
The net effect of unemployment spending when compared to “employed” spending is a vast decrease in money flowing out.
What we see with so many people trying to make ends meet on unemployment is a sharp upswing in foreclosures, more people living without insurance (of any kind), and businesses are seeing a drop in sales.
No one is actually seeing a recovery where it counts – in their pocketbooks.
A Stimulus May No Longer Work
Unfortunately, the country may be beyond the point of no return where a stimulus would actually be successful. Should the government decide to put a sum of money into the hands of citizens, the unemployed will use it for basic living expenses, and to catch up on overdue bills. Those with jobs are more likely to hold onto the money in case they find themselves unemployed.
The loss of jobs the country is suffering at the hands of Democrats that just don’t get it is not a good thing. There is neither stimulation nor jobs creation in unemployment. There is only misery.
And while everyone can see through Pelosi’s scheme to continue throwing money into unemployment “off budget”, the fact is, the National Debt will only lead to more jobs lost. The Republican’s instance that Democrats stick to a budget (which Democrats refuse to even create) will actually lead to more jobs in the long run.
This statement by Nancy Pelosi is proof positive that the Democratic leadership is incapable of leading the country out of this mess. They are unable to determine which way is up.

A couple of takes on Eric Cantor and John Boehner attempting to force a vote on ObamaCare repeal. The story was posted on The Hill, and Eric Ericson of Red State has another take on the repeal, and believes Canter and Boehner are not all that anxious to repeal this horrible bill.
You be the judge.
From The Hill:
The top two House Republicans signed onto two petitions to force votes to repeal Democrats’ healthcare reform law in its entirety.
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said they had signed onto discharge petitions set to be offered by members of their conference, one of which would seek to repeal health reform in its entirety.
Boehner and Cantor said they’d back discharge petitions by Reps. Steve King (R-Iowa) and Wally Herger (R-Calif.), a method to force a vote in the House. A majority of the House — 218 members — must sign onto a discharge petition, though, to force a vote, meaning that a vote on repeal in the House would be a steep climb.
And the take from RedState:
Well, it is official.
Eric Cantor and John Boehner — particularly Eric Cantor — have decided they don’t need or want conservatives and, more troubling, do not have any intention of trying to win at the polls by forcing Democrat hands on Obamacare.
Our leadership is behaving badly.
Last week and on Monday I mentioned Rep. Steve King’s effort to repeal Obamacare and start over. He’s filed a discharge petition. If he gets 218 signatures, Nancy Pelosi must hold a vote.
At the time, I was hearing that Eric Cantor was desperate to undermine Steve King’s efforts and, sure enough, he’s trying. Worse, he has John Boehner helping him.
Let me explain.
King’s legislative effort would repeal Obamacare and start over. In effect, all those Democrats who have been saying they too want to start over get a “put up or shut up” moment by signing the King discharge petition.
Today, Eric Cantor and John Boehner are announcing that they’ll sign King’s discharge petition, but they’re also going to go with one by Congressman Wally Herger that would repeal Obamacare and replace it with a Republican alternative.
And this is also published at RedState:
Eric Cantor and John Boehner are out today spinning furiously that their discharge petition is better than Steve King’s discharge petition.
Except there is a fundamental flaw: they have a premature discharge problem.
No, premature discharge is not a problem that can be cured with a pill.
In order to have a discharge petition, the legislation to be discharged — that is forced to the floor of the House of Representatives whether or not the Speaker wants it — must have been submitted for some time before a discharge petition is timely.
To file a discharge petition before the legislation to be discharged has “ripened”, so to speak, does not work — it is prematurely discharged.
Well, Eric Cantor and John Boehner really don’t want to deal with a “repeal Obamacare” discharge petition. So they signed it thinking it would give them the cover they needed to undermine it.
While signing Steve King’s discharge petition, Cantor and Boehner also set about getting signatures on Representative Wally Herger’s competing discharge petition for legislation that would not just repeal Obamacare, but would also replace it with something else — something not everyone on the GOP side even wants.

With Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats spreading lies about Tea Party violence, comes this video of North Carolina Democratic Congressman Bob Etheridge in a violent assault against a young student that simple asked him if he fully supports President Obama’s agenda.
Anger and violence? You betcha.
After watching this video, please visit Renee Ellmers for Congress and find out how we can help Congressman Etheridge have time for the anger management classes he needs by retiring him.
And please visit this link to donate a few dollars to Ms. Ellmers Campaign. Perhaps she should start a Retire Violent Democratic Congressmen fund.

President Obama and Democrats in Congress are asking the American people trust them that their financial regulation bill ends bailouts, but over the last year Democrats have given Americans numerous reasons to be skeptical.
When Congress passed President Obama’s $862 billion stimulus bill, the administration was assuring members that the bill would keep unemployment around 8% and create 3 to 4 million jobs. Yet late last year the unemployment rate was 10.2% and has since hovered at 9.7%. And over 3 million jobs were lost during the course of 2009.
Just after passing the stimulus bill, which was simply piled on to the nation’s debt, Obama said, “I refuse to leave our children with a debt they cannot repay. . . . We cannot and will not sustain deficits like these without end. … We cannot simply spend as we please.” Yet this administration had a record deficit of $1.4 trillion for fiscal year 2009 and is on pace for a $1.3 trillion deficit for this fiscal year. And the administration’s budget for the next fiscal year could result in an unprecedented $1.6 trillion deficit.
Meanwhile, throughout the health care debate Democrats asserted that the process was open and transparent. Obama once promised that when he championed a health care bill negotiations would not be behind closed doors, but on C-SPAN. By January of this year, not even C-SPAN could take that claim seriously any more, when the station wrote a letter to congressional leaders asking that the remaining negotiations be open to cameras. As CBS News noted at the time, “Other significant parts of the health care debate, however, have remained behind closed doors, such as Mr. Obama’s negotiations with the pharmaceutical industry which resulted in a deal committing the industry to a specific contribution to reform.” Responding to the letter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “There has never been a more open process for any legislation.” That might be the case if one ignores the fact that Democrat leaders wrote the final bills by themselves behind closed doors, wheeled and dealed in secret to secure Democrat votes (even leaving most Democrats in the dark at times), and voting on bills before many have had time to read them.
Given the Democrat track record on living up to these promises, it’s little wonder that, according to the AP, a recent Pew poll reported, “Public confidence in government is at one of the lowest points in a half century, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say they don’t trust the federal government and have little faith it can solve America’s ills, the survey found.”
So as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell pointed out this morning, when Democrats claim that their financial regulation bill “doesn’t allow for bailouts, or that it won’t kill jobs, or that it won’t enable the administration to pick winners or losers,” Americans are rightly skeptical. Indeed, Sen. McConnell said, “They’ve heard all that before. And they’ve been burned. This time, they want us [the government] to prove it.”
