There is a posting asking this question on the Daily Paul (BTW, I recommend the DP for keeping up with RP and liberty issues) and my answer was:
RON PAUL 2012: The R3VOLUTION CONTINUES
The “3VOL” would be done like the 2008 slogan.
I believe that the 2008 slogan has become in effect a trademark – a trademark for liberty and restoring the Republic. Now millions more know that we need Ron Paul now more than ever (I know that was Nixon’s 72 slogan! LOL!)
Ron Paul WILL BE an impact in 2012! Don’t take my word for it: Try these two stories.
The Fix by Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post had a poll on Iowa for 2012. (I would caution my readers that these polls are but a snapshot of the political landscape at the time.) The results were:
Mike Huckabee – 22%
Mitt Romney – 18%
Newt Gingrich – 14%
Sarah Palin – 11%
RON PAUL – 5%
Disappointing? Maybe a bit. But it’s a start. Iowa is not a libertarian friendly state. Huckabee did win the caucuses in 2008. We have some time to build that up to a better result. I also suggest Romney will be significantly hurt by his Massachusetts healthcare plan (see my prior blog entry on this) and caucuses will favor organization on the ground.
The other story is a poll from The Hill’s Ballot Box indicating that Ron Paul as an independent candidate would have an impact on the November 2012 race.
Obama – 42%
Romney – 36%
Paul – 13%
This would mean that there would be a powerful argument for including RP in the debates – key to any indy candidate. (I would say that I would not and do not support Paul running as an independent due to the high possibility that the split vote would ensure the President a second term.) However, again, this is encouraging as it shows a base of support for Cong. Paul and his ideas.
Stay tuned…

The conventional wisdom is that Tea Party candidate (endorsed by Sarah Palin and Ron Paul) and former championship star for the Washington Redskins Clint Didier cannot win. There are two establishment candidates: incumbent Patty Murray and twice statewide candidate Dino Rossi. Only the top two can reach the November ballot.
Try out these two articles. The first by David Horsey at Seattle pi.com shows that there may be a fair amount of sign enthusiasm in Eastern Washington for Didier:
Two years ago, during my annual trek through the Republican bastion of Central Washington, I saw a bumper crop of campaign signs touting Dino Rossi for governor. Signs promoting Democrat Chris Gregoire were rare as orchids.
This year, with Rossi running for the U.S. Senate, I didn’t see even a single sign bearing his name. Instead, Clint Didier’s name was everywhere. The favored candidate of Sarah Palin and Tea Party enthusiasts, Didier is not supposed to stand a chance against Rossi in the state’s August 17th primary. But you wouldn’t guess that on a drive down the roads between Omak and the Tri-Cities. All those signs make it look like Didier country all the way.
Horsey is no fan:
I guess what bugs me most is that candidates like Clint Didier and his patron Sarah Palin are riding on a wave of false fears. We who live in cities and hold liberal ideas are not the enemy. We work hard, too. We love our families and want opportunities for our kids. When there is need in our communities, we join together and pitch in, just like ranchers who team up at branding time. We love our country as much as anyone.
Horsey’s mythical liberals may not be the enemy but the ones in power seem scary enough: Obamacare, sovereignty killers like the UN Child Treaty, cap and trade, false “stimulus” packages (a better one would have been an income tax holiday), Card Check and a continuing goody-goody wars. But I digress…
The second article (at thenewstribune.com) is about the 500,000 robocalls from Sarah Palin on Didier’s behalf:
The tea-party U.S. Senate candidate announced over the weekend that a recorded message from Palin will go out to about 500,000 voters.
Palin is apparently not coming in person but the robocalls could be effective if properly focused. I think Didier seems to have caught fire among Ron Paul libertarians like me. Let’s see if he can even come in first tomorrow.

I wrote a few days ago about former Redskin player Clint Didier as a constitutionalist for US Senate from Washington State. Didier is awesome on the issues and is endorsed by Ron Paul (and also Sarah Palin, too) but his polling numbers were a bit weak. It looked like the favorite Dino Rossi would probably win.
But now Rasmussen has a poll out that shows a surge of support for Didier:
Last month, Murray led Didier, a former professional football player, 48% to 40%. Prior to that survey, Didier’s support had ranged from 30% to 37% since January. In the same time period, Murray earned 47% to 51% in match-ups with Didier.
BOTH Didier and Rossi had 48% with Murray at 45%. Here’s a Seattle media article on the same poll.
This would be a shocking sea change in just a few days. There’s still time to help. The Washington Senate GOP primary is August 17. Here’s Didier’s web site if you want to help. Didier helped give Redskin fans many years of fun times (I’m still waiting for the Drew Brees money bomb for Governor of Louisiana in 2015!) now the fans can help Clint take back the Republic! Here’s his web site.

Amended campaign documents show a former legislator’s aide who was recently sentenced to prison spent more than $52,000 on unauthorized trips to night clubs, liquor stores and restaurants.
Jason Robinson was sentenced last month to three years and ordered to pay back the money that he took from former Del. Bobby Mathieson‘s campaign funds. Robinson’s illegal spending spree lasted from January 2008 through September 2009, when he also used the funds for convenience store purchases and for a personal gym membership. That’s according to an analysis of the reports provided by the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonprofit tracker of money in Virginia politics. The 26-year-old had worked for the Democrat Mathieson since 2007. Mathieson was defeated last year.

According to records filed with the Federal Election Commission, Allen’s political action committee Good Government for America collected $314,595 from April 1 to June 30. After spending $86,458 during the period, the committee ended the period with $252,074 in the bank. Allen’s political future is the focus of intense speculation in Virginia. Asked whether he might challenge Sen. Jim Webb (D) to regain the Senate seat Webb won from him in 2006, Alllen has repeatedly said “perhaps.” He gave that answer as recently as Wednesday.

W. James Antle, III at the American Conservative has a intriguing article on what if the Tea Party turns anti-war.
Antle features Rand Paul, the GOP candidate for the US Senate in Kentucky, and his clear non-interventionist position. Rand makes the point through budgetary and debt reasons:
But what Rand Paul has done is make the one antiwar argument with potential to resonate with more conventional conservatives: “Part of the reason we are bankrupt as a country is that we are fighting so many foreign wars and have so many military bases around the world.”
It is my contention that the Tea Party/Ron Paul libertarian political alliance can indeed save the Republic. it is not a perfect situation but it is better than the status quo or the continued statism our nation is headed towards. If you add followers of Christ to thsi mix, it would be an almost unbeatable combination.
Ron Paul is very admired by Tea Partiers, according to Antle:
Although the Tea Party has an identifiable antiwar wing—one poll found that the elder Paul was the group’s second-most admired politician, after Sarah Palin—by and large the Tea Partiers’ instinctive patriotism makes them a tough audience for criticism of U.S. intervention.
But this might be changing, due to the enormous cost of wars:
But there is a limit to their willingness to spend American blood and treasure, especially as the nation teeters at the brink of insolvency. Many of them are tired of paying for the defense of Europeans they regard as fairweather friends and freeloaders, propping up foreign welfare states that serve as the model for everything they oppose at home. Neither do they want their tax dollars spent indefinitely in Middle Eastern countries whose populations don’t greet us as liberators and whose governments look more like the sharia states we claim to oppose than the democracies we are supposed to be creating.
Exactly my point! Afghanistan is not a democracy and there is persecution of Christians in this nation. Iraq could go that way as well. The EU is growing in strength; this is not good for the United States (even if elites like it). Their ideas about crime and punishment as well as liberty are not favorable. But we have subsidized Europe’s defense as well as Japan’s and there is simply no reason to do so.
The factors voters decide on are not necessary pure libertarianism or non-interventionism. However, they may be won over with an argument like this:
Today, there are millions of ordinary Americans who will be turned off by academic discourses on blowback but might be persuaded by the argument that Hamid Karzai and Nouri al-Maliki are the new welfare queens.
There is blowback off the battlefield. But it is obscure. A lady I admire greatly asked me why I felt the Swiss let Roman Polanski go. I had wondered if US tax bullying of Swiss sovereignty was part of it. But I asked her first. (Mind you she is not into politics or libertarianism) She astounded me by saying maybe it was our forcing the Swiss banks to open their accounts to us. Yes Polanski may be blowback but most Americans won’t see it. But portray the EU and Karzai and Maliki and Japan as well are queens and potentially dangerous adversaries might just work.
There is a certain amount of suspicion between Tea Party activists and Ron Paul libertarians. When I went to my first Tea Party rally in Richmond, only a few there had Ron Paul items on. At this year’s rally, it was much increased. But, think about what can happen if we work together. Antle concludes:
The Tea Party movement is a promising place to look for conservatives who want a strong national defense without bankrupting America. Those already on the antiwar Right should want to reach them, not repel them.

John Ellis at Real Clear Politics makes a wise assessment that I had not considered before: That Sarah Palin is really the front runner for the GOP nomination in 2012:
Sarah Palin cranked up her 2012 presidential campaign another notch last week, with the release of a campaign video aimed directly at women. The basic math is simple. If she gets half of the female primary voters and caucus attenders to support her, then she standing starts at roughly 25% of the total vote. Throw in a third of the male vote and she’s at roughly 40%. Forty percent wins the Iowa caucuses, handily.
Ellis suggests that Palin wins Iowa, loses to Romney in New Hampshire and then South Carolina is the battleground. There may not be much the GOP establishment can do about it. Romney is tainted by irrational prejudice:
The fact is that the Republican Party of 2012 is not going to nominate a Mormon as its standard bearer.
I don’t think Mormonism has anything to do with it; the Mormon question can be dealt (watch out unsolicited advice for Mitt Romney coming up!) with by stressing that most of the Mormons I have known are upright, honest people with good families.
No, the thing that will derail Romney is his health care package with the individual mandate. No one can credibly run against Obama with a platform like that.
Ellis is right that Palin has demographics on her side and that she is loved by the base:
And the more important fact is that the base of the Republican Party doesn’t just favor Sarah Palin, they love her. She is their standard bearer. And they will not — this time around — be denied.
Palin was unfairly treated by the media and thus most Republican primary voters will try to even the score. They’ll root for her, give her money and vote for her. I observed a poll in Georgia just today that may show her power. She endorsed Karen Handel for Governor there and the latest poll (which was actually before her endorsement) shows Handel surging. Palin knows how to pick a winner. All these officeholders that owe some favor to Sarah Palin might be willing to help her in 2012.
The only credible alternative is Newt Gingrich but he’ll have so much baggage (it’s a shame, he’s smart and able to serve) that he can’t win.
But there is one thing the GOP establishment can do: Get behind Ron Paul. That’s right; Cong. Paul. He’s got the national grassroots effort, can raise money and has some 2010 visibility. I would also suggest that Paul has grown in the respect meter among both GOP regulars and independents. Paul would impact both the tea party and the libertarians, bring in some social conservatives and it is very likely his anti-war stance will be an asset rather than a liability. Time to eat crow now rather than deal with the alternative.

Ron Paul - Gary Johnson 2012?
Public Policy Polling ran a poll on 2012 preferences (Thanks to the Humble Libertarian for the original article). It’s mostly bad news for the GOP. No one beats Obama in a two person race. But former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (44-46) and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (42-45) do best while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (39-47), former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (41-50) do less well.
PPP to its credit added Congressman Ron Paul (no “former”, he’s still a member of Congress!) and he did almost as well as Gingrich – President Obama draws 46 and Paul 36%. But the polling shows that Paul does best among independents:
One thing that’s very interesting about these numbers is that Ron Paul is the most popular out of the whole group with independents. They see him favorably by a 35/25 margin. The only other White House hopeful on positive ground with them is Romney at a +2 spread and they’re very negative on the rest: -5 for Huckabee, -16 for Gingrich and Palin, and -17 for Obama. All five of the possible GOP contenders lead Obama with independents, but Paul does so by the widest margin at 46-28.
The polling analysis suggests something radical: That Paul run as an independent in 2012.
Paul’s going to have an interesting choice in the next year or so. If his goal is really to be President rather than to influence the national dialogue then he should probably keep on trying to win the GOP nomination, as improbable as that might be. But if he wants to guarantee himself a major role in the 2012 contest he should run as a third party candidate instead. Polling at 5-10% nationally in the general election would get his views a much wider airing than just trudging along through the Republican nomination process and hoping to get 10-15% in each primary.
An independent Paul run is likely to re-elect the President. I agree with PPP that Paul should run as a Republican with his libertarian colleague, former Governor Gary Johnson as VP. (I said exactly this in January at Conflicted Libertarian) They should run together in 2012 in the GOP primaries with the mission of restoring constitutional government. It would be exciting and would set up Johnson for a run in 2016.

The Judge – my first recommendation to President Paul if he is elected our first constitutionalist Chief Executive to the Supreme Court – Judge Andrew Napolitano, star of Freedom Watch, is now a regular on the Fox Business Channel. Here’s an article (actually very positive considering the source) from the New York Times.
This month, Fox confirmed that he was getting a weekly TV show, beginning on Saturday mornings and replaying in prime time on Saturdays and Sundays.
The first TV episode was billed as a “Tea Party summit,” with appearances by the Fox pundit Sarah Palin; Representative Ron Paul, Republican of Texas; and his son Rand Paul, a Republican and candidate in Kentucky for the United States Senate. (The elder Mr. Paul endorsed and wrote a forward for Mr. Napolitano’s most recent book.)
Also on the show were three Tea Party favorites, Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and the former House majority leader Dick Armey of Texas, Republicans all, or “freedom fighters,” as the host called them. The lone Democratic guest was Gov. Edward G. Rendell of Pennsylvania.
“You know I love the tea parties,” Mr. Napolitano remarked at one point.
Judge Napolitano will be on Fox Business Channel twice every weekend with a new show. The prominent Virginia libertarian Jacob Hornberger heartily approved the new show’s venue as a triumph of the free market:
“I think Fox is seeing a business opportunity here,” said Jacob G. Hornberger, the president of the Future of Freedom Foundation, a libertarian educational group.
Another leading libertarian, Lew Rockwell, also stressed the importance of libertarians in the media:
Lew Rockwell, the chairman of the libertarian Ludwig von Mises Institute and, like Mr. Hornberger, a regular guest on Mr. Napolitano’s webcasts, said he considered “Freedom Watch” to be “the most important libertarian broadcast in the history of the American media.”
“There has never been a show willing to address the difficult subjects involving liberty as this one does, let alone to do it so effectively and entertainingly. And Republican statism gets no free pass,” he said in an e-mail message.
Of course there are critics. Bill Press lamented that right wing views are getting a “second propaganda channel.” (That begs the question: What are CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, the New York Times, etc.)
If you get Fox Business Channel, watch the Judge! Saturdays at 10 am and 8 pm and Sundays 7 pm and 11pm. I think Comcast digital has FBC on channel 106 (I can’t get that channel!). Let’s fill the waves with Tea Party and Libertarian ideas!

Freedom Watch was launched on Fox Business Network on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Judge Andrew Napolitano is the host of this Libertarian leaning show featuring numerous guests. This week, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul helped launch the show.
The fact that the New York Times noticed and wrote an article is proof that the show has the liberals all aflutter.
From the NY Times:
The first TV episode was billed as a “Tea Party summit,” with appearances by the Fox pundit Sarah Palin; Representative Ron Paul, Republican of Texas; and his son Rand Paul, a Republican and candidate in Kentucky for the United States Senate. (The elder Mr. Paul endorsed and wrote a forward for Mr. Napolitano’s most recent book.)

The lone Democratic guest was Gov. Edward G. Rendell of Pennsylvania.
And one critic of the FoxNews network as well as the show is Liberal commentator Bill Press. According to a Mediaite interview:
others like liberal commentator Bill Press say its a pure ratings move, and that Fox “just decided to make it the second propaganda channel.” As a response, A Fox Business spokesperson tells Mediaite, “If anyone is familiar with being a ratings killer it’s Bill Press who hasn’t been able to maintain a steady hosting job on television since being dumped by CNN in 2002 and having his show canceled by MSNBC in 2003.”
So, set the DVR, tune in live, or search the listings for the replay times and live show times.
