Elected Hanover Republicans Refute Cantor’s Claim that Dave Brat is a Liberal – Cantor Needs to Stop the Lies

CantorNoseEric Cantor is lying about Dave Brat.

Yes, I called the Majority Leader and my Congressman a liar. And that is something that I am not proud to have to do. But I am sick and tired of the lies about Dave Brat and they need to stop.

And I am not the only one that knows Eric Cantor is a liar.

Delegate Chris Peace, who supports Eric Cantor wrote:

“I have known David Brat for a long time and have never thought he is a liberal professor. In fact, his ethics as a seminarian and economist have always been very impressive to me.”

And Delegate “Buddy” Fowler wrote:

“These are not the ads I would have run.   I know David.   He is not a liberal. “

And Hanover Supervisor introduced Dave Brat as a Conservative Professor at a Hanover County Republican Committee meeting.

And from Facebook:

This week Todd Vander Pol, former executive of the Hanover Republican Committee and author of the newsletter “Citizens Advocate,” stated, “You and I know David Bratt from first hand experience but everything Cantors campaign is saying would be true of the average college professor. I think much of what Cantors campaign has put out is beneath the level I expect for Eric…”

So what does it say for our Congressman Eric Cantor when elected officials, even those who support Eric Cantor, say they know Dave Brat is not the Liberal Cantor claims?

Well, it means that Eric Cantor will do anything – even lie – to keep his seat. And if Eric Cantor will lie to keep his seat, he is willing to lie about anything. That includes Amnesty.

At the 7th District convention, Eric Cantor used a “Slick Willie” Clinton-esque statement to pretend he is against amnesty – after he was for it.

Cantor said that any amnesty bill that comes from Harry Reid is DOA – Dead on arrival – in the House.

So the Eric Cantor zombies think they heard him say he was against amnesty. But all Cantor said was that he was against a Senate amnesty bill. Not a House amnesty bill.

I guess that it not only depends on “what the meaning os “is” is” but also what the meaning of “against amnesty” is.

And we can continue to expect the same level of dishonesty on Cantor’s promise to get rid of Obamacare. But why would Eric Cantor want to get rid of Obamacare? Promising to repeal Obamacare has kept the donations flowing in and is probably the single most lucrative fund raising issue he has. the last thing Cantor wants is to see that go away.

And right up until feeling pressure from Dave Brat, Eric Cantor ignored the Obama Administration’s war against Conservatives with the newly weaponized IRS. Cantor considers Conservatives the enemy. On this, he and Obama, Reid and Pelosi agree. but the outcry right here at election time and suddenly Cantor is pretending to be interested.

And he has a sudden interest in Benghazi, an event he has ignored since it happened. Where has he been? And why does it become an issue now? It is spelled e-l-e-c-t-i-o-n.

This letter below is printed in today’s Mechanicsville Local. According to the writer, Debbie Wetlaufer, the Local used an early edit. This is the complete letter edited as intended. And it is a damn good letter!

Local Leaders: Candidate Brat is a Conservative

William James, the father of modern psychology, said, “There’s nothing so absurd that if you repeat it often enough, people will believe it.” Based on the number of flyers I’ve received from Eric Cantor in the last few weeks, he must be testing this theory! You’ve seen them — Cantor’s ads make the claim that his opponent, Dr. Dave Brat, is a “liberal professor” who advised democrat Governor Tim Kaine on raising taxes. But, what’s the truth?

Chris Peace a “Liberal Lawyer”?!?

Recently, former candidate for Senate Jamie Radke authored a satirical piece titled “Eric Cantor will be campaigning AGAINST Delegate Chris Peace!?!?!” In it, she discusses a Cantor ad labeling Peace as a “liberal lawyer.” After all, if Cantor can make the claim that conservative Dave Brat is a “liberal professor” simply because he was appointed to a committee by a democrat governor, then doesn’t that logic also apply to Delegate Chris Peace [R-Mechanicsville] who was appointed by democrat Governor McAuliffe to his transition team? Of course it doesn’t!!

What was interesting was that Peace commented on the article.

Regarding his appointment to McAuliffe’s transition team, Peace stated, “when one is asked to serve many feel compelled to that service by a sense of duty and honor as a Virginian.”

As for Cantor’s claims about Brat being a “liberal professor”, Peace stated, “Heck, it may be possible that with a seat at the table a conservative could rein in some of the excess. Overall I think the allegations are a stretch. I have known David Brat for a long time and have never thought he is a liberal professor. In fact, his ethics as a seminarian and economist have always been very impressive to me.”

Not the First Time

This wasn’t the first time that “conservative Dave Brat” was praised by local politicians. Four years ago Dave Brat was the invited speaker at the August 2010 monthly meeting of the Hanover Republican Committee. According to Tom White who attended the meeting, “after the usual pledge, prayer and reading of the Republican Creed, the Committee Chairman at the time, Angela Kelly-Wiecek – now a Hanover Supervisor – introduced Brat and made a big deal about him being a Conservative college professor. Kelly-Wiecek was very complementary to Brat and dwelled on his Conservatism and his background as an economist who specializes in ethics – and teaches ethics – at Randolph-Macon College. And I was truly impressed at the presentation by Dr. Brat that morning and the time went by all too fast. An amazing Conservative who really gets it, I thought.”

Not to speak is to speak

It’s disappointing that our local leaders have not made public statements condemning the blatant lies being put forth by Cantor’s campaign. Dietrich Bonhoeffer stated, ‘Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.’

Do Your Own Homework

Don’t take anyone’s word for it. Do your own homework. FactCheck.org has laid the ground work writing, “The ad takes two independently accurate claims — that Brat served on Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine’s Advisory Board of Economists and that Kaine proposed to raise taxes — but links them in a misleading way to conclude that Brat is a “liberal.””

The article explains that while Brat did serve on the Joint Advisory Board of Economists (JABE) under Democrat Governor Tim Kaine, he also served under Republican Governor Bob McDonnell. Brat did not “advise” either governor on tax policy, as Cantor alleges.  Rather, JABE “is a group of professional economists charged with providing national and state economic forecasts. It does not advise on policy decisions about taxes.” (See http://www.factcheck.org/2014/05/cantor-mislabels-opponent/)

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”

Eric Cantor can send out as many flyers as he likes. Question is, will you fall for the lies?

  1. Johnna Calhoun says:

So let me get this straight; the elected reps (Peace, Fowler, Wiecek, & VanderPol) you highlight above endorsed Cantor before they knew he was a liar and now they STILL SUPPORT him even after admitting they KNOW HE IS A BALD FACED LIAR?

  2. Leslie Z. says:

What does this say about these elected rep’s principles and integrity?

Does this mean they have a hidden agenda connected to the Ly’in King Cantor?

  3. Todd says:

Let the record show, HA BOS Chairman SEAN DAVIS was also proudly wearing a CANTOR sticker at the GOP 7th District Convention a couple weeks ago.

If u want to contact Davis to ask him if he still endorses Cantor after learning Cantor is a Liar, here is his contact info:

  4. Robert Shannon says:

Symbolism and Token measures, it isn’t a coincident these happen to come along every election cycle. Men like Eric Cantor are stooges of the crony capitalist corrupted system we now have running the U.S.

You can not expect someone who is so ingrained in this system and indebted to the laundry list of political patrons who fund their re-elections to all of a sudden behave as if they have woke up one morning a different man from whom they truly are.

Asking someone like Eric Cantor to behave honorably is like asking a Lion not to bite you if you pet it nicely. He is what he is, a testament to what I have repeated often

“not all of the low information voters are democrats” It is indeed these voters who Cantor appeals to.

  5. Fed up says:

Every elected official I saw at the convention were wearing Cantor stickers. That included Angela Kelly Wiecek, Sean Davis, Wayne Hazzard, Chris Peace, among others. We need to clean house of ALL of them. They are a huge disappointment, elected to effect change in Hanover County, and nothing changes. All the big talk about saving money, cutting the budget, trimming out fat, and the taxes never go down. Now, they are just helping their real estate developer friends rape the county, building infrastructure so they can put in more developements, with NO PROFFERS to offset the cost to Hanover taxpayers. And, they and their friends buy up the real estate based on their information about where the development is headed.

Hanover County government is a cesspool and needs to be cleaned out.

  6. Thomas says:

The “cool aide” stand is buzzier than usual as the adults need some strong drink to stand by Eric. Denial is not the road to recovery. Every elected official who continues to give Cantor a pass on policies which where conceived in self interest are defining who they are for us. The question will be do they define who we are?
