My Response to a Personal Email from Joe Biden on ObamaCare

Apparently, VP Joe Biden and I have become close friends the last couple of years. So close he calls me “Tom”.  At least in the occasional emails I receive from him. We have never met or even spoken, but he seems to know me. While this is technically “spam” it sends tingles down my leg when someone of Joe’s stature calls me by my first name.

In this email, received yesterday on the first anniversary of what Joe called a “big f ‘ing deal”, ObamaCare, Cheer Girl in Chief Biden is pimping the wonderful-ness of the latest, and most expensive entitlement known to mankind.

I thought I would respond, publicly, as I am sure a “reply” to Joe would go unread, unless there were money attached.

So, the letter from VP Joe begins:

Tom —

I want to tell you about a family in Minnesota.

Justin and Kari live in Brooklyn Park, right outside of Minneapolis. They’re parents to three children. Their three-year-old, William, was born with a genetic disorder called tuberous sclerosis complex.

Ok, I must admit. I have never heard heard of this disease, but it must be really bad. And my heart goes out to anyone suffering, especially children. Which is the point, I’m guessing.

Joe continues:

For the rest of his life, William will wrestle with tumors in his brain, his heart, his kidneys, his skin, and possibly other major organs. He must take medication to control seizures and faces the threat of kidney disease.

What Justin and Kari want for William is a future. And because of health reform, that’s what he’ll have.

Today, insurance companies are no longer able to discriminate against William because of the condition he’s dealt with since birth. Now, Justin and Kari know they’ll be able to get the kind of care that William needs — today and into the future.

Well, Joe, discriminate is a bit of a misnomer to be honest with you. It appears that William’s Dad was fortunate enough to have a job when little William was born, which means, in all likelihood, that adding his son to his policy was never an issue. That is how Insurance Companies usually work. While there may be exceptions, that does not seem to be an issue here.

What you are really talking about, Joe, is the fact that little William can now expect his Dad’s insurance to pay an unlimited amount as long as William remains on Dad’s policy – which can be 26 years now – and if he decides to change, or Dad moves to another insurance policy, William will still get coverage. No pre-existing conditions and money is no object.

Unfortunately, Dad’s company is under no obligation to provide Health Insurance for employees. Most do, but out of the kindness of their hearts.

So, will Dad’s Health Insurance premiums go up? Absolutely. They have to to keep the Insurance Company in business, or William will not have a company to pay his bills.

So now, Dad’s fellow workers will also be hit with higher premiums to pay for William’s care. And Dad’s employer is obligated to pick up a large chunk of the Premiums – if they provide coverage – remember it is optional.

So, when Dad’s fellow workers have to shell out more and more money to pay for little William’s care, and Dad’s company must pay more and more to keep coverage for their employees, what happens when hard economic times hit? Like now. Who would you lay off?

Hummm…

And if it gets really expensive, can the Dad’s company continue to provide health care coverage at all? How would the other employees feel about it if their kids, while not as sick as William perhaps, were unable to get care because unlimited expenditures for William forced Dad’s company to stop providing Health Care Insurance for all employees.

And are William and his Dad still thrilled with ObamaCare now that he and Dad’s entire company are uninsured?

Joe, I got to tell ‘ya. There is a dark, sinister side to ObamaCare. I know you are of limited mental resources, and prone to gaffs, but this law will have a really bad effect on all Americans as we begin to see fewer and fewer companies even want to provide Health Insurance because of the out of control costs.

And for me, personally, ObamaCare has already had an impact that is a potential threat to my own health.

You see, Joe, I am diabetic. My company provided Health Insurance plan has several options. For the past few years I have opted for the “Premium” plan that has a good number of benefits over and above the “Standard” plan. One of those benefits is the savings I receive on my testing supplies. If you know anyone with Diabetes, you are aware that testing your blood glucose levels several times per day is essential to controlling the disease. Uncontrolled, I could wind up with many of the same issues as young William you wrote to me about. Kidneys, eyes, even limbs are at risk if I cannot keep my disease under tight control.

Unfortunately, ObamaCare forced my company to make some changes to the Health Insurance plans. Mostly, the Premiums went up. And the plan I was on for the last few years went up beyond the price I am able to pay, what with rising gas prices and food prices. I “downgraded” to the Standard plan. The good news was, my cost did not go up too much, about 5%. But I can no longer get my testing supplies at a price I can afford so I can no longer test several times a day. I now test a couple of times a week unless I am having problems, or my medicine is changed.

But I am one of the lucky ones – so far. Others have lost their insurance entirely, unless they happened to work for a Union or a company that has given heavily to the Democrats and got a waiver. Hopefully William’s Dad is not one of these wavered Union employees or big donors who you gave these exemptions to, because, Joe, (and I am whispering here) – they will still be allowed to “discriminate” as you put it, against little William. They are exempt from covering him until he is 26, they may still reject him for his pre-existing condition and there is a maximum they will have to pay for William’s care.

I wonder, did you explain this to William’s Dad?

I am think not.

But I have to agree with you, Joe. This is a big f ‘ing deal.

And the sooner the courts put ObamaCare out of it’s misery, or the Republicans de-fund and/or repeal this horrible bill the better.

ObamaCare is more Trojan Horse than Knight in Shining Armor. The idiotic statements that you made in this email are designed to sneak ObamaCare into our homes and it will force companies to cease providing Insurance to employees and put Insurance Companies out of business.

Then, Government Controlled, single-payer, Euro-style Health Care – complete with rationing and death panels – will be our only option.

And where will that leave Baby Joseph, the poor Canadian baby who was ordered to die by the Canadian Socialist Death Panels, but was saved by Americans and is now in St. Louis and able to die on God’s terms in his parent’s arms?

I will tell you where, Joe. In the same boat with poor, unfortunate American babies in the same situation. And those with cancers deemed too expensive to try to cure, and elderly deemed too old for transplants or hip replacements.

And perhaps even kids with tuberous sclerosis complex will be deemed too expensive to treat and little William will have no recourse – and no future.
