The reason Insurance Companies have pre-existing condition clauses is to avoid insuring people that find out they have a disease and then seek coverage, so someone else will pay for it. That someone is the others who happen to already be insured by the company.
Insurance Companies know that people they cover will get sick. A certain percentage will be diagnosed with illnesses that are quite expensive to treat. Contrary to public opinion, the Insurance Companies are OK with paying these claims. They expect to pay them. The cost is built in. There are rules and fairly often when an Insurance Company denies coverage for something, it is spelled out beforehand in the Underwriting Guidelines.
Taking on people who are already sick with an expensive disease like cancer or Aids is not figured into the premiums you pay. The best way to avoid a pre-existing clause is to keep coverage.
Democrats writing the ObamaCare bills know that taking on sick people is very expensive. So, while they demonize Insurance Companies for having pre-existing conditions, the bill they have written has “waiting periods”. Six months.
If you have cancer and wait 6 months for treatment, odds are, you will not make it. And even if you hang on for 6 months, the Death Panels will most likely decide you are too sick for treatment. You are going to die anyway, so you may get pain medicines.
The thing is, most Insurance Companies will take you with a pre-existing condition, but they will exclude coverage for your disease for a period of time.
But Nancy Pelosi says this is not the same thing as the Insurance Companies’ pre-existing clauses. And I agree. The Insurance Companies will not fine you for being uninsured. But the Government will.
Health care reform.
It should be called Hellth Care.
