A Brief Lesson on Liberty & Sovereignty

Man attempts to attain power, security, and freedom in a variety of ways, none of which are new and the means of each having been time-tested and measurable. Fear moves Man to reach out as far from Himself as possible to find security in numbers. This is true both politically and socially. Fear motivates Man toward order, toward controlling the unpredictable, the unorganized action, and the individual. Why not? What does Man fear most if not the free will of individuals? What makes him feel more insecure in his own power and property than the greater power and property of others? So to secure security this kind of man reaches out to both priests and politicians for order and for greater equality, since he will not feel a single moment of ease so long as other men are free.

Now, this sort of man, this man driven by fear and resentment to prefer order to freedom, becomes the pawn of the only type of man able to provide the reality of their desire; the tyrant. The tyrannical man, equally insecure in his own individuality and sovereignty, can only feel safe when threatening the safety of others, can only feel powerful in the presence of other mens lack of power.

You see, all men are born into freedom. Freedom is our natural state. In order to create equality and great order, you must be violent and powerful, since only by making other men afraid to express their own liberty and individuality can your stop them from doing what is natural. Only the threat of death or imprisonment (in other words, only the complete destruction of ones’ liberty) can curb a free man’s instinct to be free. The tyrants provide this. They perceive no sovereignty in individuals. For them, sovereignty is derived through practical power only, and the ability to use that power without punishment. The fearful men give their consent to tyrants in return for order and greater equality.

But what about the free man? He attains his power through his own knowledge and skill. His security is derived from his own mind and body, and through the concepts and ideas necessary to sustain his own liberty, mainly, to respect the liberty of everyone else. This is the security of free men, that the liberty of all will be respected, and that the only threats to our liberty are uninitiated acts of force and fraud. He doesn’t measure himself by the power and property of others, for he is concerned only with what he has earned himself. He is neither envious nor resentful. He is not afraid of the liberty of others, for he has found that through free trade there is nothing he cannot have. He works to provide goods and services to trade for the goods and services of others. He does not require force. He does not require equality. He requires only the mutual respect of liberty and individual sovereignty.

We’ve got to decide what kind of people we are going to be. A nation of frightened men seeking security and order and equality from tyrants, or a nation of free men living together in mutual respect. This is a very real choice, because we’re always moving in one direction or another.

I sit here and try to think of words of admiration of your explanation of liberty and sovereignty. I guess only “beautiful”, “wise” and “right on” come to mind. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom and truth.

    • Elena, thank you for the kind words. I have a great deal of hope for this country, because I know that it is natural for Man to desire liberty. I believe that we can continue this freedom movement in America and that we eventually will draw enough support to return this country to greatness. The Establishment is addicted to governing and to imposing this soft tyranny on the nation, but they are required to lie and deceive in order to maintain their power. To defeat them we must continue to do two things: 1. Talk about liberty. 2. Expose the truth about our government.

That, an continue staying involved at every level of government.
