A Glimpse Of The Future Under Obamacare

Two items in the news this week on the medical front caught my eye. The first involves a member of the US Air Force. Right now, the closest thing we have to socialized medicine in this country is the

military medical system, including the VA Hospitals. For active duty military, all of your medical problems are taken care of at military hospitals. Your choices are limited and your options are few.

Last week, 20-year-old Colton Read, who is now in the U. S. Air Force, went to have laparoscopic surgery to remove his gall-bladder at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base near Sacramento. Something went horrible wrong and Read lost both legs due to excessive blood loss when the surgeon cut his aortic artery. They waited 5 hours to transport him to a hospital that had a vascular surgeon. The severe blood loss forced the removal of both of his legs.

He was kept heavily sedated, but when he awakened, he was told he had lost both legs and still had his gall bladder.

The doctor admitted he made a mistake, and an investigation will be undertaken. The investigation will likely be the only satisfaction Read and his young wife will receive, because they are prohibited from filing a lawsuit by law.

To make matters even worse, Read will likely be placed on medical retirement and receive less than half of his $1,600.00 monthly salary for his trouble.

And for a second glimpse of the future under Obamacare, we must look across the pond to England, where the government makes life and death decisions, not your doctor.

In order for an alcoholic to receive a new liver, they must prove

they can quit drinking and turn their life around. This makes perfect sense on the surface. You don’t want to give someone a new liver and have them drink the second one into oblivion, especially on taxpayer money. But the rules are totally inflexible. No exceptions.

Gary Reinbach was only 13 when his parents divorced. He took the breakup hard and began binge drinking at 13. Now 22, he became ill and was rushed to the hospital. He spent the next 10 weeks in the hospital because he was too sick to be released. Unfortunately, in order to receive a new liver, Gary was required to go home and prove he could stop drinking. Many alcoholics suffer from cirrhosis caused by drinking for years before it kills them. Gary had never been treated before, and had no idea what was happening. He never got a chance to stop drinking as he was never released from the hospital so he could prove he could stay sober. Gary Reinbach died this week at age 22 of cirrhosis of the liver. The government was not willing to spend the money to save his life because he was unable to jump through their hoops.

If you think Obamacare could never be this cruel, consider this:

When Candidate Obama flew to Hawaii to visit his dying grandmother, she was confined to the bed where she had been since breaking her hip. Due to her advanced cancer and the probability of only living another few months, Obama allowed her to suffer with an unrepaired hip. Why fix it, she’s going to die anyway.

If he can be that cold to his own grandmother, imagine how you will be treated.
