David Nuttall was elected MP in the 2010 General Election as a Conservative for the constituency of Bury North. (Here’s his bio from Wikipedia and here’s his personal web site) I could call him a Young Turk but he is only a few years younger than me; however, he has the spirit of the Young Turks in him. This new MP got a law degree by correspondence; I can admire that, too. Here’s his 20 questions interview for ConservativeHome. I was impressed with this answer about the EU:
Not much chance of this I think but let me say the Foreign Office so I could immediately bring forward a Bill to have a referendum on our continued membership of the European Union. It is expensive, all pervasive and in my opinion we would be far better off outside the European Union. We could still agree to act in unison where it was necessary to do so but as things stand it boils down to other countries constantly telling this country what to do.
I also like this answer, too:
8. Which non-Conservative politician do you most admire? I admire all those who have had to struggle to overcome a disability in order to achieve their goal.
On his personal blog, he supports capital punishment for murder and opposes any liberalization in the euthanasia laws. He also publishes his expenses on his blog. I am adding David Nuttall to the Young Turks of the Tory Party.
