A Simple Way We Can Save BIG on Healthcare – Reform “Public Need” Laws

Healthcare was the subject of much of the political debate in this year’s election and sure to be the subject of even more debate with the results last Tuesday’s election.  However, there are many ways we can look to cut cost and safeguard the consumer through legislation right here in Virginia.  One such way is to reform the Certificate of Public Need  (COPN) right here in Virginia.

Hopefully, legislators in Virginia will take a look at further ways to improve healthcare and work to reform antiquated laws that squelch competition and drive up health care cost.  Possibly they can look to reform COPN laws, which will attribute to more cost savings for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The link below is very insightful at how, with simple reforms, we could save the taxpayers of Virginia more of their money and offer better healthcare with simple legislation.

Dr. Ben Carson, someone who knows a little about the healthcare system has advocated just what Singapore has done, Universal Health Savings accounts .

Singapore has had considerable success and citizens still control their care, the health savings account can be used to pay for co-pays, deductibles , and other out of pocket expenses, with a portion of the money being used to purchase catastrophic care for those that will ultimately require it.

The beauty of Dr. Carson’s suggestions is that he would also allow family members account balances to be shared within the immediate family.

What was the objections from legislators when health savings accounts were being promoted here about 7-8 years ago………..

They were another tax break for rich people ???????? As opposed to having the government do it ? That’s worked out well so far.

Both Dr. Carson’s proposal along with Congressman Paul Ryan’s fix for Medicare should be acted on , just as soon as this colossal failure , the ACA fails. It shouldn’t be too much longer given the horrendous results to date.
