All Welcome! Jan. 28th The Salt & Light Council Gathering!

As we announced in our January 2 message to you (copied below), our first multi-church Salt and Light meeting will convene on the evening of January 28 at 7PM. It will be held in the space where Needles’s Eye Ministries meets in the Hanover AirPark at 10049 Lickinghole Road, Suite D, Ashland, VA 23005 (Directions below). We plan to begin the meeting at precisely 7PM and adjourn at 9PM so please begin arriving at 6:45. The tentative agenda follows:

A- Welcome, Prayer and Brief Introductions (10 min)

B- Why Salt and Light? A Quick Overview of the Ministry (15 min)

C- Educational Portion of the Meeting – Focus on the Family’s, The Truth Project. Lesson 1 – “What is Truth?” (60 min DVD)

D- Lesson 1 Discussion (20 min)

E- Distribute S&L Action Information and Determine Next Meeting Time and Place (10 min)

F- Prayer, Adjournment and Invitation to Those Who Have Questions to Stay Longer to Have Them Answered (5 min)

The Salt and Light ministry follows a formula that is represented by the acronym PETER (Pray, Educate, Take Action, Elections and Restoration). The ministry was formed and is maintained by those who recognize we live in an age of growing decadence. Societal decline can be delayed, but only if courageous Christians are willing to stand their ground (Ephesians 6:13). The current headwinds of decay are strong and pervasive. It’s imperative, therefore, that we immediately begin to grow the number of committed Christ followers who understand and confidently embrace the Biblical Truth that will empower their stance.

This is why we have selected The Truth Project as the first educational offering of our S&L Multi-Church Council. Some of you may have seen this DVD series and can attest to its transformative power. Ravi Zacharias “wholeheartedly recommends The Truth Project” noting that it is “worthy of its name and its intent” and expressing his hope and prayer that “many will get behind it and take advantage of it”. The series will reintroduce you to the Truth claims of God and will address the need to marry your actions to the core beliefs of Scripture.

Why is the S&L effort important? Many commentators, including Dr. Erwin Lutzer, pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago and author of The Cross in the Shadow of the Crescent , have noted similarities between today’s American Church and the Church of Laodicea (Revelations 3:14-22). The Laodiceans felt they were accomplishing God’s will despite the complacency Jesus observed in them. Recall that in His letter to this Church, Jesus indicated He was “about to spit them out of his mouth” because they were neither hot nor cold. Jesus closed with the admonishment, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches (v. 22)”. Are our Churches today listening to His counsel?

Over the course of our involvement with this project, we have heard from Church members who have declined participation in S&L noting their Church would not want to become involved in a ministry that involves speaking out on uncomfortable social issues. Rest assured, the Salt and Light ministry embraces 1 Peter 3:15 in that its training prepares Christians to give answers with ”gentleness and respect”. We must recognize; however, that while Jesus told us to love our enemies, He never said we wouldn’t make any if we stood for His Truth. He also said that those persecuted for righteousness would be Blessed. Seldom are we persecuted by the secular world if we conform our concept of “righteousness” to the values of the secular culture and adopt a “lukewarm” position; thereby following the example of the Laodicean Church.

Others with whom we have spoken have told us their particular Church was in a state of transition and something like Salt and Light wouldn’t be appropriate at this time. But that’s precisely why we’re forming this Multi-Church S&L Council. Come, see what it’s like; and, if you like it, invite others from your Church to attend. Hopefully, this process will permit you to attain the critical mass necessary to launch a Council within your home Church.

We hope you’ll join us on January 28 at 7PM. Please respond to this message and let us know if you can attend so that we can make adequate provision for you.

Hopefully this is a NEW Budding Church. One like the Founders intended the Church to be, Patriotic and Powerful! And not a weak, timid business entertainment center like most Churches are today.
