I did not know the men’s 800 could have so much fun! I haven’t had this much fun since I ran 800s and was cheered at an away team match by the home team’s crowd! Led by a girl much much better looking than Paris Hilton! (My nearest competitor was from the third school invited, hence the cheering by the former Wurzburg AHS cheerleader whose dad got sent to HQ in Heidelberg!) Alas I did not beat the guy from Berlin.
Here’s my favorite for any sort of medal: Nijel Amos from Botswana. Today, will be this wonderful African nation’s last chance for Olympic glory. No medal ever for Botswana. Not yet! It’s at 3 pm.
But the American Nick Symmonds has his own story: He is crazy about Paris Hilton! Look here and here:
Men’s 800m Final – If you haven’t heard of David Rudisha, grab a seat for the men’s 800m. He’s the surest thing to a lock as there is in these Olympics, and we’re not sure if anyone will be within shouting distance when he crosses the finish line Thursday night. American Nick Symmonds needs to run a perfect race for bronze, and to win Paris Hilton’s heart.
and…
-
WE BROKE the story that Olympic hopeful Nick Symmonds was so smitten by Paris Hilton–he glimpsed her from afar one memorable day–that he asked her father, Rick, for permission to “date” her. Well, they actually have been out on a date, and it must have gone well. They’ve been texting and e-mailing each other almost every day since. Symmonds, often referred to as “the Brad Pitt of runners” is on the rise. Aside from his own athletic skills, some of this success has to be credited to his indefatigable press rep, Hal Lifson. Lifson represents other athletes and a few actors. This guy is like a dog with a bone about his clients. And he’ll throw in items that have nothing to do with his own interests. He’s old school PR and one of the last of his kind.
That David Rudisha from Kenya is the real deal – he holds the world record in this event. I like the fact Symmonds asked Hilton’s dad first! Good touch! (I prefer the Serena Williams look myself to Paris Hilton but my sweetie at home wins my gold medal for beauty!) Let’s hope it is Symmonds gold and Amos silver (although the other way around wouldn’t break my heart!)
UPDATE and CORRECTION: I failed again! I put “lies” when I meant to write “likes”. Apologies to my readers and to Nick Symmonds!
