The Virginia Right blog is hono(u)red to endorse Dr. Kelli Ward in the GOP primary in Arizona. That can only mean one thing (well, there are two senators from AZ but this is not the year for the reelection of Jeff Flake) she’s running against Senator John McCain.
I used to admire John McCain. In fact I still do admire his war hero record. He gave up an early release from the Hanoi Hilton to avoid becoming a propaganda vehicle for his captors. He was always pro-life. Used to be a strong conservative.
But gradually McCain and I drifted apart. He wanted to attack Serbia for no reason – even sending ground troops(!) to that Balkan nation to punish them for alleged human rights violations (there were some – on both sides – but not enough to be worthy of attacking a nation for no reason); then McCain came up with McCain-Feingold (I recall in 2008 at a Hanover Republican meeting being told by the chair that the local party could no longer give out sample ballots. Since when, I asked semi-innocently – fearing what I expected the answer to be – and I was told that it was a result of that bill. It was awkward – so i said: it’s that guy at the top of our ticket this year, isn’t it? Well, yes. McCain/Feingold…) and then he wanted to attack Syria, I think Libya too and helped with the awful unconstitutional Magnitsky Act.
Now the straw that sent the camel to the ER was this ad I got in my email box just this week:
Friend, I wanted to make sure you saw the email I sent you last week. It included a very important race update, so I hope you will read it below right away and stand with me.
[I am glad to be a senator’s friend! I bet I won’t be after this blog post!]
I hope I’ll have your support.
Friend, I’m emailing you today because some of the early polls are showing me neck and neck with my opponent Democrat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick. You’ve been a loyal friend and supporter and I need to know that you will stand with me again today.
*** [Blogger’s note: I do not donate to candidates that is why I blog!]
Will you make an immediate contribution to help me fully fund our campaign plan and build a strong grassroots organization? Please follow this link or click the button below to make an online contribution.
Let me be clear. If Democrat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick wins, Arizona AND America lose. That is why none of us can take this race for granted.
One small tiny problem: John McCain is raising money now using his Democrat opponent but his issue is the GOP PRIMARY – where he is in a tight race with Dr. Ward!
Now it is possible Senator McCain is raising money for his GENERAL ELECTION bid (you can give the max to a federal candidate for each election they are in!) but it is not stated like that here. The ad ought to be pulled as misleading.
Now there is another ad for McCain and it stars fellow neocon Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton:
Let’s get straight to the point:
If John McCain isn’t in the United States Senate, it’s a big win for radical Islam.
There isn’t anyone in this country – especially any liberals – who can and will do more to fight terrorists than John McCain.
John needs our help now. He is in a dead heat in Arizona right now against Democrat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, and we need to send a strong message to her and the Democrats that John McCain is going to win re-election.
BUT again, one small tiny problem! McCain ain’t running against Kirkpatrick! Not yet! And if this blog has its way Senator McCain never will! This ad ought to be pulled too.
Shame on you Senators McCain and Cotton! Also this implies that if McCain loses, it helps our enemies. I would say McCain’s meddling has probably done as much harm as good in the Middle East.
Now meet Dr. Kelli Ward (this is from her website):
My Background and Family
Since earning my degree in medicine in 1996, I’ve spent my life healing the sick in private practice and in the ER. While serving as a State Senator, I continue to practice medicine in emergency departments in Lake Havasu City and Kingman.
I met my wonderful husband Michael in medical school, and together we’ve been blessed with three amazing children: Nick, Katie, and Cameron.
Looking at these three beautiful kids, I know it’s time to step up and do something. Our future won’t be secured by more false promises and failed leadership. I am ready to serve Arizona.
And here’s some issues (again from the Ward website):
Under my Patient Power Plan:
Obamacare in its entirety would be completely repealed, including all of its taxes and all of its regulations. That would also reverse Obamacare’s $800 billion in cuts to Medicare.
The Patient Power Plan will repeal of both the individual mandate and the employer mandate, liberating all Americans with the freedom to choose the health insurance they prefer in the market once again.
All Americans without employer provided health insurance would be eligible for a health insurance tax credit equal to $2,500 per person, $8,000 per family of four, which would effectively extend the tax preference for employer provided health insurance on equal terms to everyone. Workers would be free to use that tax credit for the purchase of any health insurance in the market of their choice, including Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). The credit would be refundable and payable monthly so that even those with little or no tax liability would receive the full amount of the credit which they can use to help pay their insurance premiums. This reverses power and control over health care and insurance from politicians and bureaucrats in Washington to working people all across America.
Kelli will approach all legislation in the U.S. Senate with a two part test:
- Is it a legitimate government function?
- Is it Constitutional?
[Almost sounds Whitlockian, doesn’t it!]
Kelli agrees with the late Justice Scalia’s view that “The Constitution is not a living organism. It’s a legal document, and it says what it says and doesn’t say what it doesn’t say.”
Even more importantly, Kelli believes that our rights are granted by God, not government. Although the rights of the people are unlimited and unenumerated, federal powers are strictly limited by their enumeration in Article I, Section 8.
According to the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, all other rights and powers belong to the people and the States respectively.
Picking up a cell phone doesn’t terminate your Constitutional right to privacy, and federal bureaucrats can’t point to a single case where warrantless wiretapping has made us any safer from terrorist attack.
The number one priority for national security is defending the Constitution. Period. We must protect our freedoms and liberties for which so many have fought and died. Without that, the rest becomes irrelevant.
And on drafting women? Dr. Ward is against it!
Senator McCain’s NDAA this year is 1,706 pages. That’s because it contains a lot more than just troop funding.
Senator McCain’s version of this year’s NDAA contained several provisions beyond troop funding:
Indefinite detention of American citizens on American soil without a right to trial or due process.
Thousands of new visas for refugees from Afghanistan along with welfare benefits paid for by an increase in pharmaceutical co-pays for military families.
$18 Billion increase in federal spending, which military leaders called unnecessary. As former Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen said, “The most significant threat to our national security is our debt.”
Mandatory selective service registration for women punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 or a prison term of up to five years. Kelli Ward opposes drafting our daughters.
No consideration of the bipartisan proposal to reform the military’s protocols for investigating and adjudicating sexual assault allegations.
No explicit guarantee that “slush fund” money won’t be used to perform abortions.
Would you vote for a bill to “fund the troops” even if it would draft your daughter, pay for abortions, and relocate Afghan refugees into your neighborhood? Kelli Ward wouldn’t.
There’s more and this is wonderful:
An “America First” National Security Policy
[I like it already!]
Establishment John McCain’s national security policy seems to be “Invade the World, Invite the World” as The American Conservative Magazine so memorably put it a few years ago.
Kelli Ward believes, like Ronald Reagan, in “Peace Through Strength,” alongside a realistic and restrained foreign policy. We simply cannot afford to be the world’s policeman anymore, and weak half measures often cause more problems than they solve.
*** [Blogger’s AMEN! PREACH IT SISTER!]
The US currently has about 737 military bases in 63 countries and troops in 160 nations. Meanwhile, John McCain’s Washington has done nothing to secure the most important battleground in the War on Terror: Arizona’s border.
Sounds like another heroic member of Congress from Texas…
Let’s retire Senator McCain with thanks for his service but not too soon before we invade 89 more nations and draft our daughters to do it! The VR blog endorses Dr. Kelli Ward for US Senate.
