Bob McDonnell and the Amazing Unemployment Stimulus Money

The Creigh Deeds ads paid for by various special interest groups are hitting the internet casting blame on Bob McDonnell, the Republican nominee for Virginia Governor. You may have seen them. A poor unemployed person blames McDonnell for his benefits running out. If only McDonnell had taken the money, he could live comfortably off of the largess of President Obama, who borrowed the money he wants to give away at our expense.

He is being very generous with our money, isn’t he?

The question we should be asking is not why Bob McDonnell did not want the money, but why did President Obama and Nancy Pelosi put so many strings on it that will bankrupt the unemployment pool. I would venture to say that if Obama offered the money without strings in the interest and spirit of economic stimulation, we would take it.

Does Creigh Deeds think we are all stupid? It would be refreshing if Deeds would protect us from the federal loan sharks. This Obama money is far more costly than the out of control payday loans we just got rid of.

Unfortunately, we have not gotten rid of the payday lenders. See below:

"The payday lenders went out and they decided they didn't like restrictions that were imposed on them even though they could still charge 200-300%… And they started doing these lines of credit which fall under a different statue." http://www.nbc12.com/Global/story.asp?S=10640485&…

Will McDonnell support an interest rate cap on payday and car title lending?

The payday lenders have restrictions now that they previously did not. Due to poorly crafted legislation signed by absentee governor Kaine, the lenders changed tactics and use revolving lines of credit, secured loans and fees to make up the money the legislation took away. So, what you are complaining about is not the payday loans, but the banking rules and regulations. There is nothing to stop your own bank from doing the same.

But the point of my post was not intended to say pay day loans were gone completely, as they have simply morphed. Just that taking that easy money can lead to a lot of financial pain in the near term.

    Sorry for the confusion.

__We're all sitting back watching Obama run through our government like a kid in a candy store with OUR CHECKBOOK in his hand. He has displayed NO FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY. He knows he's spending somebody else's money, and rewarding all the ones that keep opening the doors for him to continue on this path. We're in so much trouble. Socialism is creeping in, and our elected officials are doing nothing to stop it. Senator Webb has made it very clear that he will follow Obama through flames. (I'm sure he's been promised a firesuit.) These people will stop at nothing in order to make us so dependent on government, so that they can grow government into an even bigger expense and put more money in their personal accounts. BE VERY CAREFUL OF YOUR VOTE IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTIONS. We need to send a more responsible group to the House and Senate if we're ever going to get a handle on this. We need to work together. It's going to take more than a Village to get this turned around.
