But I began to sour on Shuler when he refused to vote to repeal Obamacare and he did not run for Governor of NC nor did he seek reelection to the House. The search began in earnest for a NEW Favorite Democrat.
About that time I made the acquaintance of Senator Chap Petersen, Democrat from Fairfax. He amazed me when he responded to my idea about a study bill on an Appellate Defender with: “I like the idea of an appellate defender. What would it take to happen?” Here are the blog posts on the budget amendment.
The budget amendment failed but we began to raise the flag for the pressing need for an Appellate Defender. I’ll be back next year. Fair warning!
Here’s some other great ideas Sen. Petersen has:
Allowing hunting on Sunday. Don’t have to hunt on Sunday if you choose not to but it is liberty to hunt on Sunday (with permission of course)! (I have never hunted and probably never will unless I can go with a nice camera to take the PICTURE of the deer. Saves the deer and I get a nice picture!)
Requiring parents to be notified in the event of school discipline. Excellent idea.
Now I hear that Senator Petersen (who is I am told a LIFETIME member of the NRA!) is helping Del. Marshall get HB 1160 (the anti-NDAA bill) passed:
Thanks in part to Senator Chap Petersen, today the Senate receded from its amendment and accepted the original House language.
I am pleased with Senator Petersen’s leadership on this issue. So I have decided today, March 8, 2012, that the coveted title Sandy’s Favorite Democrat is hereby conferred upon Senator Chap Petersen. He’s a leader with vision. If Sen. Petersen runs for higher office, I’ll help him in the primary (and maybe in the general election, too!).
