I got this from the End of Day Report issued by Gary Bauer:
Bishops Issue Call To Defend Life And Liberty
Billy and Franklin Graham are not alone in their unprecedented involvement in this election. America’s Catholic bishops are rallying the faithful to defend their values from an unprecedented government assault against the Catholic Church and other religious institutions.
Several bishops have issued strongly-worded letters to their parishes. Yesterday the Catholic bishops of Pennsylvania released this letter warning “Religious liberty itself — ‘our first, most cherished freedom’ — is no longer secure.”
Paul Lovedre, Bishop of Arlington, and Francis DiLorenzo, Bishop of Richmond, issued this letter to Catholic voters in Virginia.
Bishop Daniel Jenky of Peoria, Illinois, has instructed all parish priests to read a similar letter at weekend masses. Click here to read Bishop Jenky’s urgent message to Catholic voters.
I wonder if this could impact the election? Some Catholics will resent the injection of politics into the pulpit. But others may be encouraged to vote. I guess we’ll see – but Franklin and Billy Graham have intervened in this election in a unprecedented manner. Bauer reports today that there is a letter out saying yes a follower of Christ can vote for a Mormon. Here is a prior Bauer report on Graham’s involvement in the election:
Billy Graham’s Message To America
There is a full-page ad in today’s Wall Street Journal with a message from Reverend Billy Graham. I want to share it with you here:
“The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this great nation is crucial. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election could be my last. I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God.”
Help spread this message. Click here for bulletin inserts and links to share it on Facebook and Twitter.
Of course there is criticism but I am glad Bill Graham is speaking out and so is Franklin Graham, too. I am am bit amazed at Rev. Grahams’ openness and I am not sure I’d done it unless the Lord was clear. I have to trust both men, both of whom I admire very much, are doing what they perceive to be the Lord’s work.
