He’s a former Marine Captain, graduate of VMI (2002), and served twice in Iraq. And he’s presently an intelligence analyst. And they homeschool their kids – and they are starting a farm in Western Hanover county.
And Christopher G. Sullivan is the Libertarian candidate for the 55th District House seat of the retiring John Cox (This blog has endorsed Buddy Fowler for this spot but I promised the Libertarians good airtime here at the blog – including their candidate for Governor, Robert Sarvis) that covers central and western Hanover and parts of Caroline and Spotsylvania counties!
I had lunch yesterday with Christopher and he is a dynamo of energy. He is for non-intervention (although Sullivan admits that it is not a state issue!), for adherence to the Constitution, is concerned about over-criminalization, and wants to make Virginia the “…freest state in the country.” That Virginia has done well is true: Sullivan cited a report that said the Old Dominion is the eighth freest state in the nation.
Sullivan actually graduated from Newtown High School in Connecticut. Yes, that Newtown. His wife and two of his siblings actually attended Sandy Hook Elementary. (Now Christopher is staunchly for enforcement of the Second Amendment!) But upon graduation from high school, he decided to go to Virginia Military Institute. Upon graduation from VMI, in 2002, right after 9/11, Sullivan went into the Corps. (I would never make it a week at either VMI or the Marines!)
I think Sullivan would be a solid candidate for a major political party. Although I plan to support Fowler, I am glad to see opposition on the ballot. The 2011 Hanover ballot looked too much like one of those one party states most conservatives criticize! Sullivan’s articulate and well-spoken. Here is his Facebook page and here is his website. I like and admire him very much.
