CONG. PAUL PUTS IT RIGHT SPOT ON HERE – WE MEDDLE IN TOO MANY OTHER NATIONS’ INTERNAL MATTERS! (another great site) reports Cong. Ron Paul’s principled opposition to some sort of bill called the Belarus Democracy Act.  Here’s the summary from

Belarus Democracy Reauthorization Act of 2011 – Amends the Belarus Democracy Act of 2004 to authorize assistance to promote democracy and civil society in Belarus. Includes Internet broadcasting within the scope of increased support and funding for U.S. government and surrogate broadcasting to Belarus. Expresses the sense of Congress that the President should continue to support radio, television, and Internet broadcasting to the people of Belarus in languages spoken in Belarus by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Voice of America, European Radio for Belarus, and Belsat. Includes among the criteria that the government of Belarus must meet in order to end U.S. sanctions the release of individuals who were jailed based on political beliefs or human rights violations in connection with the repression that attended the December 2010 presidential election. Authorizes the denial of U.S. entry to members of the security or law enforcement services who have participated in the crackdown on opposition leaders, journalists, and peaceful protestors or in the persecution of religious groups or human rights defenders.

Congressman Paul thinks this is unconstitutional meddling:

And though it scarcely should need to be said, I must remind my colleagues today that we are the U.S. House of Representatives, and not some sort of world congress. We have no constitutional authority to intervene in the wholly domestic affairs of Belarus or any other sovereign nation.

Paul is right; I do not intend to condone the action of the government of Belarus.  But they are a sovereign nation.  We can insist privately that they follow certain norms of international behavior.  But we should not pretend we are the United Nations and condemn publicly other nations.  This could place ordinary Americans, including missionaries and tourists, in danger.  Let’s stop these feel good laws and resolutions immediately.  I am certain President Paul will veto this law promptly.

  1. George Washington says:

Constitutionally, legislatively, and morally, Ron Paul has no equal. His 22 year voting record speaks for itself.
Mr. Paul has not survived in politics for 22 years and maintain the ethics and morality he has by being anything other than stellar.
If You refute the above comment, then I please invite You to listen to him speak about key issues. It is amazing how well he comes across because he doesn’t have to remember lies like other politicians. He understands what is happening in the world and knows how to apply the basic principles of liberty to achieve the real change that America so desperately deserves.
American to American we are all on the same team. So I present Mr. Ron Paul as my Candidate for 2011 and invite anybody to meaningfully and respectfully debate why he is not the best for American and its people in 2012.
Ron Paul = A real change, not for special interest, but for America’s Interests!
    Thank You for Your time
