County GOP Committees in Virginia Attack, Stonewall and Purge TEA Party Activists

The following article was written by and is the personal experience of one hard working young man that represents exactly what the Republican Party needs – youth and enthusiasm – to replace the aging dinosaurs in the Virginia GOP who think becoming even more like Democrats is the way to win back power.

Make no mistake, this is not an isolated incident. Republican Committees all over the Commonwealth are looking to purge Conservatives in favor of more big government tax and spend policies.

The Hanover GOP that I used to belong to became hostile to Conservative views a while back. They are totally ineffective and headed in the wrong direction – left.

The Republicans in Virginia are bankrupt of ideas and the best answer is to become more like Democrats.  I had hope that the Party could be salvaged. Not any longer.

If you have more stories like this please contact me and let me know. As Eric Cantor’s Young guns come into Virginia gunning for – not Democrats, but Conservatives – and RINO Bill Bolling continues playing footsie with the Democrats and doing all he could to ensure Republicans lost the 2013 election it looks like Virginia will be turning blue after all. Conservatives cannot win without the “establishment” republicans and the “establishment” republicans cannot win without the Conservatives.

So as Eric Cantor, Bill Bolling and others fire the first volleys in the Republican Civil War Democrats have free reign to destroy the state as they already have in Washington.

Civil War within the Virginia Republican Party

By Philip Hamilton

Currently, there is an ongoing struggle between establishment Republicans and Tea Party conservatives over future control of local GOP committee units.  Many GOP committee units, including the unit in Caroline County, are controlled by establishment Republicans who are actively stonewalling Tea Party conservatives from joining the committee.  In the 7th Congressional District, and in surrounding Congressional districts such as the 1st, Congressman Eric Cantor, Bill Bolling and others in power are actively seeking to retain establishment chair control and to overthrow tea party chairs.  Eric Cantor knows that he is more likely to win a primary than a convention, since a more conservative candidate would win the latter.  Cantor specifically wants pro-primary chairs installed in GOP committees so that when he is up for re-election he can insure he obtains the nomination process of choice.  For Cantor, and other establishment Republicans, retaining power is more important than growing the party.

Last month, I wrote a letter to the editor explaining what needs to change in the local Republican Party in Caroline County.  As the Grassroots Chair of the Fredericksburg Area Young Republicans and as the Caroline County Tea Party chair I felt it was my duty to offer some advice to how conservatives can improve in 2014 and beyond.  I suggested that meetings should be once a month, rather than quarterly, that a minority outreach chair should be appointed and that a committee website should be created in order to help grow the party.  I made these requests known directly to my local GOP Chair, Jeff Sili, but all of them went unanswered. While I was disappointed by the unresponsiveness of the chair in regards to the constructive criticisms I had made, I was looking forward to being voted in as a new committee member in December.

On Monday December 2, 2013 I attended the Caroline GOP committee meeting at the courthouse in Bowling Green.  Unfortunately, the meeting turned into a smear campaign on my name rather than a meeting to include me into the local unit.  A friend of mine notified me that before I showed up to the courthouse, the chair made an announcement that an officer from the Sheriff’s office was brought to the meeting in case Philip Hamilton were to cause any ruckus during the meeting.  Upon entering the meeting the officer asked for my name and warned me that I would be asked to leave if I caused any trouble.  I assured him that I would not cause any issues.  When the meeting began, the wife of the chair Susan Sili spent ten minutes falsely stating that I was a Democrat, that I had tried to start a Caroline Young Republicans chapter without the approval of the Virginia Young Republicans chair, that I had sanctioned the Mark Obenshain and EW Jackson events I hosted in Caroline County as GOP committee events, when I actually held them as local grassroots activist events due to my lack of support from the local GOP chair in getting people to attend, and other accusations.  After the ten minutes were up, I raised my hand and asked the chairman politely for some time for a rebuttal.  The chairman rejected my request for time on the floor, had the statements leveled against me submitted as official minutes of the meeting, and went on to new business.  Jeff Sili went on to discuss rule changes for membership.  Before the requirement was that you put in your intent in one meeting and then get voted in at the following one.  Jeff Sili proposed a rule that you have to attend three committee meetings and volunteer at two GOP committee events before getting voted in.  Even with the membership rule changes, I was still eligible for a vote, but the chair refused to let me speak to the committee and to let them know that I was in fact eligible for a vote.  I left the meeting with no vote taken and the realization that I was yet another victim of the establishment Republican power grab.

The actions that Jeff Sili took against me for being a Tea Party conservative was blatantly unethical, immoral, and slanderous and these actions will not go unanswered.  I am taking a stand against the establishment in Caroline County by spreading the truth about the GOP chair and his stonewalling of hard working conservatives.  I encourage the rest of the Tea Party conservatives to do the same by trying to join your local party unit and to change the leadership dynamics of your local groups.
