Deeds and McDonnell On Abortion

Democratic nominee for Governor Creigh Deeds campaign has decided to forget the real issues facing Virginians and try to make up the huge poll deficits against his Republican opponent Bob McDonnell by turning to abortion. Having failed to sway voters on his views, or more specifically, lack of vision, on taxes, transportation and the economy, Desperate Deeds has decided he needs to play to the Northern Virginia Democrats to win. Being a bumpkin from Bath County, his only knowledge of NoVa is that they are rabidly pro-choice. One even wonders if this time, Deeds will use his own voice in NoVa, as he fears his backwoods drawl will turn off Northern Virginians. As Politico put it concerning Deeds primary ads in NoVa “Though he appears in the ad, not once did Deeds speak and reveal his country-inflected twang to voters in the least-Southern part of the state.

What he is missing, though, is the only candidate with a true understanding of the issues of Northern Virginia is the one who grew up there. Bob McDonnell. While abortion may be near and dear to the hearts of many NoVa liberals, it is not a major concern when compared to the hours and hours a day they sit in the nightmarish traffic of the region. The state is not even able to financially repair the existing roads, let alone build much needed new ones.

Did you ever hear the morning traffic reports in Bath County? Ever hear the reports from the Bath County Traffic Chopper?

If you’ve ever been to Bath County, you just grinned, didn’t you?

If you have also driven I-495 around 7:30 AM you know what traffic is.

Yet Deeds thinks his stance on killing babies will make you jump for joy at the prospect of his being Governor. As Bob McDonnell said during an internet interview conducted by the Richmond Times Dispatch, the next Governor of Virginia will have far too much to deal with, and that abortion is not even likely to come up.

So, Creigh Deeds still wants to paint McDonnell’s views as radical. McDonnell believes abortion is wrong except to save the life of the mother. If one believes that 1. Life is sacred; and 2. Life begins at conception; then the issue is completely settled in your mind.

While Deeds would insist more exceptions be made in order to not be a radical, such as rape and incest and the “health” of the mother (which is called the “abortion on demand” loophole), to do so would be inconsistent with the 2 beliefs mentioned above. The circumstances of the conception may be tragic, but a life was created and must be protected. McDonnell also believes we must do more to make adoption easier and more affordable.

Now Deeds, on the other hand, has voted consistently in favor of abortion on demand. And he is in favor of late term abortion, a procedure that completes the birth, feet first, and then, often pushing the baby to make sure it does not slide completely out, opens the back of the skull and suctions out the brain, killing the child. If the head were out, it would be murder, no doubt. There is NEVER a medical reason for this procedure. The only reason is to legally murder a child before the legal rights kick in.

The truly radical views on abortion belong to Creigh Deeds.
