Delegate O’Bannon has taken the lead on numerous issues, but his expertise as a physician has been invaluable in shaping Virginia Laws and programs.

Its a very strange thing. Were you not just a week or so ago talking about how the Shields campaign team was floundering and now Dr. O'bannon determines its neccessary to spend the money to run an ad in the 73d District race. How many other Delegates are running ads? This is where the honesty of your posts comes into question. Whats the real reason the ad is being run? Reach deep for some honesty. The race is tightning.

When a football team is leading by 3 TD's in the 4th quarter, you still play defense, right? I mean, you don't just walk off the field and let them score, right? Shields sent out 9 mailers last week to one person's house. Actually, the DPVA did. So, they are paying for Shields campaign now.

But let me clue you in on how things work. Look around at the Delegates that are running unopposed. Why are they holding fund raisers and knocking on doors? They are going to win, right? Why waste the time and money?

Here's why. 2011. When the opposing party is looking at the races that they think they can win, or have a chance at winning, they look at how much money they raised and how many votes they got. If they received a large number of votes, and raised a lot of money, the opposition will move on to another race.

In addition, O'Bannon just upped the ante. The DPVA is spending money money on mailers. Money Shields does not have. DPVA now will have to decide if Shields is worth dumping more good money after bad. Doc has a massive money advantage and the Democrats are hurting now. Fund raising is down for the party.

It looks like a sweep for the Republican ticket at the State level and 2010 promises to be an expensive and bloody mid term with control of congress on the line.

O'Bannon just gave the Democrats something to chew on. Do you dump party money into a lost cause like Shields, money that you will absolutely need next year, or save it and try to hold as many seats in the US House as possible.

Worse case, the Dems dump more money in Shields, run expensive TV ads and spend money on a lost cause, or cut their losses and let Shields fend for himself.

Shields has had a very hard time raising money. If it were not for the DPVA, he would have had to fold tent already.

O'Bannon is simply closing in for the kill. And he is leaving the Democrats with a hard choice. In this game, running up the score is a good thing.

I can promise you this, if O'Bannon crushes Shields, he will probably run unopposed until he retires. The Democrats won't bother. If someone wants to run against him, the party won't be helping.

Look at some of the other races. In the 55th, Delegate Hargrove retired, and John Cox is running for his seat. The chairman of the Hanover Democrats is running against him, but he has no money and the party is not helping. It was an open seat and the Dems wanted to try to challenge, but it will not even be close. I don't even think they are going to debate.

In the 97th, Chris Peace is unopposed. But he is raising money and has signs up all over and he is knocking doors.

You need to take a broader look at the larger picture.
