A new Gallup poll shows that the gap between people identifying themselves as Democrats and Republicans has evaporated since President Obama was elected and is now a virtual tie. In 2008, 53% of the country identified themselves as Democrats and only 39% as Republicans.
In a Gallup poll released April 23, 2010, Democrats now hold a 1% advantage at 46% to 45% – a statistical dead heat.
While Democrats are claiming that Obama’s Health Care Reform victory will help his standing among voters, this poll clearly shows Obama’s victories have caused a mass exodus from the Democratic party and an influx of voters identifying with Republicans.
The article points out that the swing is due to independents leaving the Democratic Party and leaning towards the Republicans.
This is not good news for November 2010 for Democrats.
