I enjoyed the article by Michael Brown in Townhall, especially the part about Richard Dawkins.
Dawkins: On the Origin of Species…Uh…With, oh, God, On the Origin of Species. There is a sub-title with respect to the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life. (Dawkins actually left out the “Natural Selection” part of the title, even though it is the cornerstone of Darwin’s evolutionary theory.)
Dr. Dawkins, Tim Tebow can be reached c/o the Denver Broncos to know more about becoming a follower of Christ! (Or you can go here!)
But, the statistics about those who call themselves believers or followers of Christ in Britain are disturbing. Granted, it was a survey by the Richard Dawkins foundation but I believe the numbers are legitimate. Here are some:
60% of so-called Christians have not read any part of the Bible in the last year.
26% believe in prayer and 21% do not do so at all.
49% do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God with only 32% believing in the resurrection.
I Cor 15:17 is clear: “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins…” (KJV)
Numbers like this ought to cause true men and women of faith in Christ to hit their knees. We need revival in the West. It may come because Eastern European or Chinese or Korean followers of Christ bring it to them/us.
We are called to be salt and light to a lost and dying world. A world headed to hell. Now all have the right to come to Christ; the door is open to all persons. But not all are saved. If you do not believe in Jesus Christ, the resurrected Son of God, as the Creed says “Very God of Very God”, you are not saved. Don’t take my word for it; try this passage from the Bible the “Christians” do not read:
“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.” Romans 3:22-25 (KJV)
There will be a great worship time where people from every group in our world will participate in:
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palms in their hands;…” Revelation 7:9 (KJV)
It’s time for followers of Christ to stand up. This is what we believe. Contend for the faith. The Bible is the Word of God. It is without error. Jesus is God; He is one Person of the Trinity. He died for all – including you – the reader of this blog – wherever you might be. Sin is sin. And standing up with result in persecution. None of us are perfect; I failed this very evening when the lady at the night spot we are at after curling tonight asked me about why I had a sweet tea instead of a beer. I should have said: The Lord said about 30 years ago no alcohol and I try to follow that. But I chickened out. She figured I was driving home (I was!) but that is not why I did not partake (by the way, beer is not inherently sinful. It is just sinful for me!)
But we must stand for something. I believe that a major reason for the establishment of this nation – one nation under God – was that followers of Christ would take the Gospel to every corner of the globe. Let’s be salt and light in the world today. Jesus gave us no other option:
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its savour, wherein shall it be salted? it is therefore good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be tordden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:13-14 (KJV)
