Doc Thompson Fired from WRVA Radio and WLW in Cincinnati

Doc Thompson has become a fixture in the Conservative Community in the Richmond and Central Virginia area. Thompson worked the 3 PM to 6 PM drive time radio slot on WRVA Radio in Richmond.

Thompson took a few days off to get married to Dayton Ohio reporter Yuna Lee. And towards the end of his Honeymoon, WLW Radio in Cincinnati, where Thompson has been living since October, 2010 informed him that he was being terminated.

Talent Shake-Up at WLW, Cincinnati; Eddie Fingers Returns.  Today sees a revamped talk host lineup at Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s “Big One” WLW, Cincinnati highlighted by what Queen City media observers are calling the bizarre return of Eddie Fingers to the PM drive show 15 months after he was fired from the same show.  According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s John Kiesewetter, Fingers will rejoin co-host Tracy Jones for the 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm program.  Jones’ partner since October of 2010 – former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Scott Sloan – moves to the 9:00 am to 12:00 noon slot.

That means late morning host Doc Thompson is the odd man out.  Kiesewetter reports Thompson was fired last week while on his honeymoon with WHIO-TV, Dayton reporter Yuna Lee.  Thompson still works for Clear Channel hosting the PM drive show at the company’s WRVA, Richmond.

And while some in Cincinnati speculated that they could still listen to Doc in Richmond on WRVA or via the Web, Doc’s Facebook post confirmed that he is no longer working at the Richmond station either:

I am no longer hosting my Richmond show.

In the world of radio broadcasting… sometimes these things just happen.
As I said earlier in the week it will all work out for the best and I am blessed.

To the people of The Commonwealth of Virginia… You are wonderful!
To the WRVA staff and listeners… Thank you

So, it would seem that there is an opening in the 3:00 – 6:00 PM slot. And it is unclear if the station will move Sean Hannity to the slot (live) instead of the delayed slot he now holds, or if some other show will take over the slot.

Stay tuned …

Clear Channel finally sees the writing on the wall — conservatism as a political movement, and as an entertainment vehicle, has runs its course.

"Follow the money, sonny," said the carnival boss.

The freak-show is closed, due to lack of customers.

You,Obama,Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are running the freak show. We the voters will end the show in Nov. 2012. Enjoy your government give aways until then.

Ummm, sorry, but it's nothing of the kind. WRVA TRIED to get him to stay here in Richmond, but he didn't want to live in the state. As for "Clear Channel" seeing the writing on the wall, it still syndicates EVERY major conservative show in America. And the WRVA line-up is right of center from sunup to sundown.

My husband told me Jimmy Barrett of WRVA explained yesterday that Doc has not been living in Richmond for some time, opting to live near his Cinci job since his new wife works in Dayton, OH. Cinci let him go and then when Richmond tried to negotiate with him to return to Richmond that Doc opted NOT to live here… I was upset too, but hearing it explained that way (by Barrett) it's a different story if Doc opted out of living here.

I am sure Doc will land on his feet at a time and place which is good for him.
I enjoyed Doc on WLW amd will enjoy him when I find him on the dial soon.

I think Doc T. was an asset to the show. The screeching, Mac W. little man “syndrome” was so annoying. Doc has an awesome broadcasting voice, and was an eloquent host. I think a daytime radio show is hard to get a large audience, most people are at work during this time & don’t have access to radio. I listened mostly enroute to places. I will miss him & doubt that I will even try to adapt to some of the annoying hosts they have to fill in or even a permanent new one. Good luck to Doc T., you definitely won’t have any trouble finding a new position that you like.

Sadly, there's a vacuum on WRVA. I would listen to the Lee Brothers, but they are evidently not in the running. I would love to have someone LOCAL, but failing that, move Sean into the 3-6pm slot (where people could actually hear him LIVE) and then replace Sean's spot with Mark Levine. Not as good as a local, but problem solved: intelligent hosts, and worthwhile listening.

  6. Drew says:

Enter text right here! Good little Kool aid drinkers…

  7. Virgil C.Carter says:

Will not listen to WRVA again. I liked Doc Thompson program. You have lost me as a listener.
