Don’t Blame Corey…Blame me!

I carefully with expectation awaited the results of the special elections.

First, let’s congratulate the winners:  Senators-elect Mark Peake and Jennifer McClellan and Delegate-elect Rocky Holcomb.  There are no net changes in the political landscape after Tuesday night.  But it was close.  Thankfully the GOP turned out in sufficient numbers to ensure Peake’s election.

But Corey Fauconier, the Libertarian, only received about eight percent of the vote.  I am sorry more Republicans and Deplorables and even some Gary Johnson voters did not turn out to make this election closer.

But it is really my fault – not Corey’s – I should have known better.  I did not at the time Corey made the ballot and declared as a Libertarian say this:

It is now time to get the Libertarians around the country to give you MONEY – right now – in late November and early December – so Corey can run ads on radio and in print media.

Some state LP units tried to help but the fundraising was not what could have helped.  I am convinced the people could have raised say $25,000 (maybe more) that could have gotten Corey on the air – at least on the radio.  AM 820 and 1140 and the hip-hop and country stations, too.

I think the turnout could have been better.  Corey and his people got nearly 400 signatures and got on the ballot.  Corey had a great team.  Over 20,000 voters voted for Trump in the district.  Enough to win the election.  I have nothing to say about that.

I would recommend Corey stay involved – go to meetings – speak out – write letters and get ready for the rematch in 2019.  It’s the election cycle that has the lowest turnout because only senators and delegates are up.  I think the GOP will not run a candidate against Senator McClellan.  It’s up to Corey to take that stand again.  I won’t forget again.

But the flag of liberty was furled in the River City.  Let’s raise a sweet tea to that!  Cheers!
