I was and am disappointed that former UN Ambassador and Presidential adviser John Bolton will not run for President in 2016.  I did not have a good sense that he was going to run but I was still hopeful.

So how did a Ron Paul libertarian/conservative end up supporting Bolton?  Ambassador Bolton was firm on what may be the most important issues of the day:  National sovereignty.  Bolton acted for President George W. Bush to renounce the signature of Bush’s predecessor, Bill Clinton, on the Rome Treaty that established the International Criminal Court.  Bolton famously (and with tongue in cheek) that the UN building would not miss the top ten stories!   He is also surprisingly perhaps to some more libertarian than he is given credit for.  (Bolton would have supported gay marriage for example.)

So Sandy is undecided at this point.  The campaigns can try to persuade me.  But now I must say something some would find surprising:  I recommend now that people NOT give money to Bolton’s Super PAC and here is why:  The money might end up supporting Senator Lindsey Graham for President.  That is unacceptable for reasons I have stated before.  Here’s my evidence (from the Bolton email):

In 2016, conservatives must:

– Elect a true national security conservative as our next president
– Hold off a massive leftist effort to regain control of the Senate
– Protect our conservative majority in the House.

I’m putting my full strength into running an aggressive 2016 campaign that will battle to support national security conservatives and end the defeatist foreign policy that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have imposed on the American people.

With Hillary Clinton running for President, I’m determined to work overtime to expose her horrific national security record and ensure that a national security conservative is elected as our next president.

I would at the very least insist none of the PAC money be used for Graham for President.  (Or John McCain for re-election to Senate!)

I am not angry at Bolton.  I would still support him for office.  Many of the national security conservatives are good people, too.  But as long as Senator Graham of South Carolina is a possible President I cannot recommend this PAC.
