Doc Thompson has been a rock solid voice on the radio that has entertained and informed us on WRVA-1140 AM for a long time. Doc became a fixture in the Richmond afternoon by asking the tough questions and daring to give voice to the truth. He stepped on toes and earned his place in Richmond’s history and hearts with his work. We all miss him.
As far as I know, there has been no decision made at WRVA to succeed Doc. And I won’t say replace.
Now I have heard a number friends speculate on possible successors. A lot of them are interesting possibilities.
But there is one that came to mind, for me anyway, that could step in and not miss a beat.
WINA – 1070 in Charlottesville has a true Conservative gem from Noon until 2 PM weekdays.
I am presently at CPAC 2012 in Washington DC and ran into Rob Schilling on “Radio Row” in the main exhibition hall. We chatted a while and I thought this guy could really make things happen in Richmond. If you are not familiar with Rob’s work or have not heard his show, there are a number of Podcasts here. Listen to a couple and see what I mean.
Now I am not sure Rob would entertain the idea of doing radio in Richmond, and I am positive the listeners in Charlottesville would not easily part with Rob, but it is something that I think the management at WRVA would be remiss in not taking a hard look to our west.
Rob is a talented Conservative and would draw a great audience immediately.
