EVEN IN CALIFORNIA, PEOPLE ARE RISING AGAINST AGENDA 21! IN THE BAY STATE, A LIBERAL GOVERNOR ABANDONS AN AGENDA 21 PROGRAM! (ONE THAT A CERTAIN GOP GOVERNOR STARTED!)

Here’s a great story from Lodi, California – an aroused citizenry can get things done:

LODI CITY COUNCIL DELAYS HOLDING VOTE ON CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

No this is not a misprint.  Lodi, California delays action on Climate Change plans!  How did that happen?  It was due to less than TWELVE citizens speaking out!

The Lodi City Council halted an item on its consent agenda Wednesday night after almost a dozen local residents questioned the science behind global warming and raised concerns about the city being connected to an organization tied to Agenda 21, a United Nations initiative they say is trying to create a socialist, worldwide government.

The paper is obviously trying to stir ridicule or misunderstood Agenda 21 (Lodi is not a member of ICLEI by the way!) but several comments are telling:

Lodi resident Ed Miller said even though the state is pushing for cities to create a climate action plan, that doesn’t mean the city should go forward with it.

“This is kind of like two wrongs make a right. I think the cities need to band together and push back on the state and say, ‘You can sue every city,’” Miller said.

The city council promised to look into whether other California cities are not doing climate action plans.  Another, who is the president of the local tea party organization, Lodi Citizens in Action, discussed sovereignty and the Constitution:

At the council meeting, Lodi Citizens in Action president Kim Paragoris said she looked at the Smart Valley Places Compact’s goals, and believe their goal is to control the lives of Central Valley residents.

“It’s the end of American sovereignty, and it’s against the United States Constitution for these entities to be getting into agreements with foreign nations,” Paragoris said.

One of the Democrats Against Agenda 21, Rosa Koire, spoke recently to the Lodi group.   Her video can be found on the DAA21 website.

The word was heard by the local officials:

Councilwoman JoAnne Mounce and Mayor Bob Johnson both said they wanted to hear more about how this grant could relate to Agenda 21 before voting on it. They also wanted to know if other communities were not going through with a climate action plan.

So, if you think you only have a few to speak against Agenda 21 and ICLEI, think again!  Remember Lodi!

Meanwhile, on the east coast, we have the doings in the Bay State, otherwise known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!  But there is something going on here, too.  The liberal Democrat Governor Deval Patrick gutted a pro-Agenda 21 program known as Commonwealth Capital.  Judge for yourself if it is just the calm before the storm or is Gov. Patrick ready to join Democrats Against Agenda 21!  Here is the Commonwealth Capital website; here is the report of the blogger who is upset about the end of CC:

Commonwealth Capital asked cities and towns to fill out a scorecard that reported what they were doing at the local level to foster smart growth — that is, less sprawl, and more mixed-use, walkable, downtown-centered, transit-oriented growth. The communities got credit for green building, saving energy, preserving open space, and zoning reform, among many other categories. Those that scored highest went to the front of the line to receive about $500 million per year in grants and revolving loan funds for infrastructure including water and sewer projects. The idea was to put state funding to municipalities through a filter, and reward innovation in sustainability at the local level; previously the money was just doled out.

Sounds like typical Agenda 21 stuff to me.  But guess who STARTED Commonwealth Capital?  If you said the GOP Governor from Massachusetts and candidate for President – Mitt Romney!  Maybe Governor Rick Perry ought to use this little gem in the CNN/Tea Party Debate Monday night…

Controlling sprawl in Massachusetts began under Mike Dukakis and continued under Bill Weld, Paul Cellucci, and Jane Swift, but it was Romney who was an avowed champion of smart growth. In this respect Romney was a big environmentalist. He was for RGGI (the Northeast regional greenhouse gas emissions compact) before he was against it. Of course, Romney doesn’t talk about smart growth much these days.

Another agreement between states of dubious constitutionality.  This blogger at boston.com, Anthony Flint, accuses the governor of catering to tea party radicals:

Tea Party representatives have lately been characterizing smart growth and planning initiatives as part of a United Nations conspiracy referred to as Agenda 21, particularly in California,…  *  *  *  What a house of mirrors. The Massachusetts Republican believed in smart growth but doesn’t say so; the Massachusetts Democrat claims to be an environmentalist but is dismantling anti-sprawl initiatives.

It’s too early to celebrate but “tea party radicals” should thank Governor Patrick for a teeny tiny retreat on Agenda 21.  Now he can ask the Bay State municipalities to get out of ICLEI.  Then we’ll know:  Governor Patrick’s ready for DAA21!
