17.65% swing Lab to UKIP
Electorate 79,170; Turnout 28,472 (35.96%, -21.57%)
From the Guardian live blog.
This is astounding although it is a bit disappointing to come this close and lose. But it appears, although turnout was admittedly light, that there are a few Farage Labourites in Heywood and Middleton!
Technically this is a record percentage and maybe record votes in a Westminster race at nearly 39% for UKIP but this record will be shattered by the Clacton turnout that is still pending as of 9 pm (2am) tonight!
