George Allen: Chairman Kaine Is Going In The Wrong Direction

Henrico, VA– As Chairman Kaine and President Obama double down on the same failed stimulus policies that left Americans with 9% unemployment and massive debt, a new Bloomberg poll shows that an overwhelming 72% of Americans think the economy is headed in the wrong direction.

  • Bloomberg: “The poll results show the public is running out of patience with political leaders after months of protracted negotiations over the national debt ceiling that brought the country to the brink of default and signs that the economy is weakening. Seventy-two percent say the country is on the wrong track.” (Bloomberg, 9/14/11)

Meanwhile, The New York Times described the tax hikes being proposed to pay for the bill as a collection of recycled measures that have been “pitched by the Obama administration in some form or other since 2009, yet none generated enough support to pass Congress — even when Democrats controlled both houses.”

So it’s not surprising that many Democrats aren’t supporting the President’s latest effort to raise taxes to fund his nearly $450 billion second stimulus.  The real question is whether Chairman Kaine will stand with President Obama and support the same failed policies he defended at the DNC, or will he finally come up with a plan of his own?

“Virginians won’t be fooled by Tim Kaine’s latest pitch for his job-crushing tax hikes,” said Delegate Mark Cole (R-88 Fauquier and Stafford Counties, City of Fredericksburg).  “Virginia needs a Senator with a real plan to reinvigorate the economy and create jobs, not more calls for higher taxes to fund more government spending.  George Allen has a proven track record of making pro-growth reforms that work and he has the plan to turn this economy around.”

“Virginians expect leadership, not followship.  It’s disappointing that instead of developing a plan of his own, Tim Kaine would rather just recycle the same failed tax and spend policies he’s been defending for nearly three years,” said Delegate L. Scott Lingamfelter (R-31 Prince William and Fauquier Counties).  “George Allen has a plan to make America more competitive, unleash our energy resources and create over a million new jobs, and that’s the kind of leadership we need in the U.S. Senate.”

“Last week, Virginians were hoping for new ideas to jump start the weak economy.  Instead, Tim Kaine and President Obama offered more of the same, higher taxes, more government spending and another stimulus package,” said Delegate T. Scott Garrett (R-23 City of Lynchburg and Amherst County).  “George Allen will fight to unleash our energy resources, which would create thousands of new jobs here in Virginia and increase our supply of affordable energy.”
