To parody an early rock and roll song:

“Roll over Brezhnev and tell Hitler the news!”

Here’s two reports on two remarkable statements made by the German Finance Minister about Greece.

German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble is raising fresh demands, suggesting that Greece should postpone April’s elections and appoint a technocrat government for a year without key PASOK and New Democracy parties, prompting the headline “Schaeuble Junta” in newspaper Eleftheros Typos.

From the other report:

All Greek parties must commit to reforms agreed with international lenders, no matter who wins upcoming elections, or Athens puts at risk a second bailout programme it needs to avoid default, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said on Tuesday.

Greece must implement the agreed measures and reforms. And of course all Greek parties must agree to the measures and a new programme, independently of the upcoming elections,” Schaeuble told reporters in Brussels.

Brezhnev and Hitler must be turning over in their graves.  Why need the Red Army, tanks, the Luftwaffe, V-2 rockets, the London Blitz or local traitors when you can use money and banks instead to control Europe!  Cheaper.  Maybe even more humane!  But the effect on the same:  Diminished sovereignty.  The usual EU elite tactics.

I do not even know why the Germans worry:  All the major Greek political parties are Tweedledee and Tweedledum anyway.  But, to save the banks (not Europe) the EU leaders will seek friendly regimes to help them.  But the price to pay is a want of legitimacy.  It’s a shame:  The EU could do some good – free trade, breaking down borders, peaceful resolution of conflicts and lowering barriers that prevent the proclamation of the Gospel throughout Europe.  But they overreached and now we have German ministers telling another sovereign nation when to hold elections.  It’s outrageous and the lesson for the US:  Get the debt under control or some nation or group of nations will do this to us.  Let me never live on Earth to see it.

I got this note from a friend that has lived in Greece for over 20 years, married to a Greek with 2 kids in "university". She is a LIBERAL and doesn't seem to see anything wrong with what is going on. The article is from the NYT about Greeks eating from garbage cans and other things going on there.

Hello Robby, what a great article, I'm going to share it. The author did a good job of writing a well balanced article.

It is funny, your comment led me to believe that it was all doom and gloom. I found it to be very optimistic. It painted a true picture of the people and their ways of dealing with the crisis. It got several points right, 80% of Greeks own their own homes, family is very supportive and the dead wood needed to be cut away. I think I told you before, the people who worked for the government and had loans are the most affected and that is sad for them, but the families I work for haven't changed their lifestyles nor cancelled lessons. In a country where the minimum wage is 3 euros an hour, I charge 15 and some of my friends charge more.

I find it fascinating that you are so interested in Greece and its growing pangs. Take care, I'll let you know when we collapse and slide into the Aegean. To be honest most Greeks hope we go bankrupt and pull out of the EU.
    hugs, Kathy
