As we continue to feel aftershocks from the Bratquake that hit central Virginia yesterday, I was reminded by an unimpeachable source (Bob Shannon) that Gerry Baugh had worked hard to try to talk Dr. Brat into running against Cong. Cantor. And Shannon is absolutely right.
I do recall in one of my many lunches with Gerry, a personal hero of mine for crashing one of the scripted celebratory meetings in Hanover (it was about the school budget as I recall) with some tough questions and comments that so shook up the reporter for the Mechanicsville Local that it dominated the above the fold on the first page article. That was how I became involved in the local Mechanicsville Tea Party – I wanted to meet and congratulate my new political hero. We here at Virginia Right named Baugh our 2012 Person of the Year.
Baugh, who runs a leading auto body business in the Richmond area, is a humble but fervent fellow who led the MTP for two years. He was telling me, several times if I recall, how he wanted Dr. Brat to run for Congress against Cong. Cantor. This blogger the unbeliever (I thought Brat might do better as the Libertarian for US Senate actually – reach a broader audience for his ideas! Even Sandy can be wrong!) was skeptical that the race could be won. I mean Eric Cantor? The Majority Leader? In the primary? Really? NAH…Do you believe in miracles…BTW, I should have acknowledged Brat’s gratitude to God for his win. Good for him!
Well, the aftershocks continue to come in…but our job is not done. We need to get Dr. David Brat elected to Congress!
