Harry Reid Lies: Eric Cantor DID NOT SAY The Bill Includes ‘Revenue’ (Taxes)

I was watching a press conference with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, I couldn’t believe my ears on a comment that the Progressive Democrat made.

Reid said:

“I was just told Representative Cantor said that he – look I just walked out here, maybe I’m wrong but someone just told me that Cantor said that revenue very well could be part of what we do with the joint committee.”

As far as I know, Congressman Cantor is supporting the bill, and he does not support raising taxes, so I had trouble believing the accuracy of Reid’s statement. It turns out I was right.

Eric Cantor never made any such statement. After contacting Cantor’s office, I received the following reply which came out of the press office:

At a press conference this afternoon, Senator Reid claimed that Leader Cantor said revenue could be a part of the joint committee. Nothing could be further from the truth. As Leader Cantor has said since the beginning of this debate, House Republicans will not agree to tax increases. Period. Senator Reid’s claim is absolutely FALSE.

Senator Reid: I was just told Representative Cantor said that he – look I just walked out here, maybe I’m wrong but someone just told me that Cantor said that revenue very well could be part of what we do with the joint committee.  (Press Conference, 8/1/11)

Like I figured, Harry Reid is making things up.

A statement like this could torpedo this bill in the house. Reid knows very well that tax increases will kill this bill in the House on arrival.

So, is the Senate Majority Leader trying to sink the bill in the House and play partisan politics?

I am betting the answer is yes!
