I have it on fairly good authority that the Governor’s office keeps up with this and other political blogs so let’s use that for this purpose: I encourage Governor McDonnell to sign the HB1160. Send a message. Virginia will not cooperate with unconstitutional indefinite detention without legal counsel. I believe Governor McDonnell will do the right thing. I have been acquainted with him for many years. So I encourage him to sign HB1160. Send the message: Virginia says no.
On a different note, while I have the Governor’s ear: If the legislature adjourns without approving a judge for the Court of Appeals, the best candidate, the ONLY ONE with 11-0 vote of Highly Qualified of the Virginia State Bar is Monica T. Monday of Roanoke. She would be evenhanded, she’s a great writer and appellate advocate and WILL be an asset to the Court. I would appoint her without delay.
