Labour is the gift that keeps on giving!  Here and here are reports of an Agenda 21 idea that ought to be abhorrent to every voter in Heywood and Middleton:  Banning the individual ownership of cars.  That’s right:  Cars.  And it is I am sure of course to protect the climate!

Dr Alan Whitehead, a Labour MP for Southampton Test and a member of the Energy and Climate Change select committee, said the increase in car ownership would lead to ‘something approaching a national traffic jam before 2040’.

He claimed that radical action would be needed to avoid national gridlock.

In an article in the Guardian, Dr Whitehead wrote: ‘We need to consider doing something serious. What we need is a considerable expansion of public transport over the next period and a shift from car to bus, train, bike or even feet. The big problem is how to do it.’

He went on to suggest that ‘outlawing’ car ownership was better than banning car use altogether, preferring ‘regulation rather than prohibition’.

Dr Whitehead added: ‘What if the Government simply regulated for cars to be sold and used just as they are at present (hopefully with an increasing presence of electric and hybrid vehicles) but outlawed individual ownership?

I just “love” the gobbledygook the Agenda 21ites use.  It sounds like sarcasm or cynical humo(u)r.  But they are serious.

And from the other report – the key word:  Sustainable.  That means Agenda 21.  Nanny state nonsense.  And don’t think a Labour government can’t do it.  The EU already has banned some vacuum cleaners and may move against some hair driers!

Writing in the Guardian, Dr Alan Whitehead said radical action was needed to tackle the UK’s transport crisis and that private cars were not a sustainable option.

This is why UKIP is fighting your fight.  Fighting our fight.  Labour is not fighting anymore for the (as the common law cases used to say) the man in the Clapham omnibus.  They are for the EU, they are the Tweedledee party in the UK, and they have a nasty tendency toward nanny state regulation.  There ought to be several talking points to use in Heywood and Middleton on brochures and in personal campaigning.  Something like this:

“They have come for your cheap beer and now they come for your car!”

Another interesting story is the Labour bill to ban smoking in a car with kids in it.  It looks like it will pass.  (“Tabled” in British politics seems to mean the opposite of what it means in parliamentary law.)

Labour peers tabled an amendment to the Children and Families Bill detailing their proposal for England, which they said was about “protecting children”.

Labour has said that if the measure does not become law before the next election, it will be included in its manifesto.

Now I understand the safety issues involved.  But it seems that many in all three parties in the UK are ready to regulate the intimate details of your life.  Not to try any other ways to discourage smoking among children.

I submit there are many Labourites who feel that their party left them.  They are Farage Labourites.  The by-election in Haywood and Middleton ought to be a good test – and it will get national attention.  Make sure this is used in the last few days before the election.  Small turnout might just produce the upset that will again shake the British political system.

Is it October 9 yet?

This is exactly why we need a common sense party representing the ward
