Hobby Lobby Wins Contraceptive Case – Closely Held Corporations Need Not Pay

Hobby Lobby wins. They will not be forced to pay for Contraceptives that violate their religious beliefs.

This decision concerns only the contraceptive mandate and should not be understood to mean that all insurance mandates, such as blood transfusions or vaccinations, necessarily fail if they conflict with an employer’s religious beliefs.

The court left open the possibility that the government could pay for contraceptives and morning after pills. We may see a Executive Order.

This exempts closely held corporations like “S” Corporations where the company is not a public company.

The decision was 5-4 split between Liberal and Conservative-ish members.
