I started in the VP debate with trepidation but thought it would be serious, even a bit boring, discussing issues. I even had said yesterday that this debate would be used to cure insomnia for years to come!
Senator Tim Kaine with all his interruptions, snarky and snide comments and repeating the same Clinton soundbites, severely hurt the “I might disagree but I could have a beer [sweet tea for me] with him and talk Cubs or something” image Kaine has carefully cultivated for years, making him unassailable as a US Senator.
He will almost surely draw a serious opponent in 2018 (Rep. Dave Brat perhaps?) and I think this debate will hurt him.
- His attack of Trump as unpatriotic for not paying MORE than legally required in income taxes was silly and Pence tried (somewhat lamely) to counter it.
- He was mean, snarky and rude – stuff like “why won’t he reveal his taxes? Why won’t Trump keep his word?”
- And Pence was presidential (he looks like a President from Central Casting) and tried to keep it on a high level although he showed he could mix it up with Kaine.
I think the VP debate will change few minds but maybe the new symbol for the Trump campaign should be this:
We might have a better chance of winning!
