Inner City African-Americans Find Much in Common With Virginia Republican Party

Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Meeting

Sometimes, in the process of documenting and covering events for this blog, I have been witness to a number of events that I know at the time are going to make a significant impact on the future of the city, the State or the Country.

Such an event occurred in an inner city church called Mt. Olivet in downtown Richmond, Va. a few days ago.

Mt. Olivet Baptist Church is located in Richmond, Virginia in a neighborhood that most people would avoid in the daytime if possible. Let alone at night. And there is no better testament to the dedication and seriousness of the contingency of Virginia Delegates, lead by Speaker Howell, that ventured into this neighborhood to meet with African-American Church Leaders, inner city kids and adults.

Bishop Daryl Husband, Pastor of Mt. Olivet for nearly 3 decades welcomed the gathering of like minded Conservatives to his Church. Bishop Charles West (known by many as Coach West for his work with the children) of Reality Church of God, Don Blake, Chairman of the Virginia Christian Alliance and Sonnie Johnson, Virginia Chapter President of the Frederick Douglass Foundation joined Terry Beatley, President of the No Excuses Ministry in welcoming Speaker Bill Howell and about a dozen Republican Delegates to the Virginia House.

Bishop Husband opened with a rousing message of unity and hope that the Conservative message and Family Values embraced by the Republican Party could spread to the African-American Community.

There are three videos, the first of which accompanies this post showing the Bishop Husband’s comments. The remaining videos will be posted over the next couple of days with commentary.

After watching these short videos, you will agree that this is the beginning of an important awakening by members of the African-American Community of the kindred spirits and shared values that these minorities share with Republicans.
