The first time you meet John Cox, you immediately notice that he is tall. Very tall. It may be a bit of a surprise when you talk

John Cox
with him, though. He is a soft spoken gentleman with a ready smile and easy going manner that instantly makes you feel like you have known him for years. His business savvy is his strong suit, building Cox Transportation Services into a major Virginia business that has provided good jobs, pay and benefits to the Commonwealth for nearly 3 decades.
It also may come as a surprise to find that his business acumen, admired and respected by most, is not what he considers his primary accomplishment in life. His family holds that distinction. When he talks about his wife and daughters, his eyes give away the pride and true sense of accomplishment and what his family means to him. In John Cox, Hanover County has not only an accomplished businessman running for the 55th Virginia House District seat, but a man plugged into the youth and spirit of his community.
John gave me a little tour of his plant as we talked and as we walked around, the respect and admiration he received from his employees was unmistakable. He is not the type of boss that sits behind a desk

and gives orders, rather one who leads from the front. To use a football analogy, two successful coaches in the NFL are Bill Parcells and Tony Dungy. Both get the job done, but Parcells is more of a demanding, yelling, screaming kind of coach that extracts performance out of fear, and Dungy is the quiet, experienced leader that extracts performance because the players want to do their best out of admiration. John Cox runs more to the Tony Dungy end of the leadership spectrum.
If we were able to pick our next door neighbor, John Cox would be the ideal person for the job. Warm, unpretentious and down to earth. Not a “politician” at all, but a prime example of the Citizen – Legislator envisioned by the founding fathers.
Since we don’t get to pick our neighbors, picking John Cox as the next Delegate to represent the 55th Virginia House District is the next best thing.
Below is the audio portion of the interview.

In his interview with my younger brother John Cox, the 55th District House District Republican Candidate, Tom White did an excellent job in capturing the essence of what John is and what he stands for. Although I now live in Calabash, NC, I grew up with John in Richmond Virginia and am very familiar with Hanover Country in that I attended and graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. With John, what you see is what you get- no pretense, no hidden agendas, straight talk, great common sense, and empathetic concern for his employees and for his fellow man. He is also extremely astute with regards to the issues which face not only his community, but also our state and nation. He not only indentifies the issues, but he does not hesitate to state his positions on them clearly and he is a man of action. There is no doubt that he will clearly articulate these issues as the delegate from the 55th District of Virginia. Our family is proud of John for what he is and what he stands for and we know the faith and confidence placed in him by the voters will result in actions as a delegate which clearly support what he has said all through the campaign.

Bill Cox knows what I am talking about. As I have come to know John better and better over the past few months, it is obvious that he is an honest and good man. Hanover County is already a better place with John living here, and it is amazing after all he has done, he still wants to give more. That is just the type of man he is. Bill Bolling said it well. John is running for all the right reasons. Thanks for the comment, Bill. Hopefully I will meet you around town some day. John speaks highly of you.
