With all the brouhaha over the remarks by Rep. Akin, which I cannot take a position on because I am not a physician nor have I researched it but many I respect say Akin must get out of the race so I say maybe he should favorably consider that, I wonder if Rep. Akin does not get out whether this is an opportunity for the Constitution Party to elect its first Senator. (If I had to leave the GOP, the Constitution Party is probably where I would go, so I hope they regard me as a friend.)
The Missouri Constitution Party has NO candidate for US Senate. Maybe it should. (I am alas not a Missouri resident so there is no hidden agenda here!) Isn’t there a good candidate out there in case Rep. Akin does not drop out? They may have the same deadline (I am NOT a Missouri attorney!) as the GOP. I’d do it: Nominate someone like for example former Attorney General Ashcroft, a clear man of integrity and faith. (I am not speaking for Ashcroft; I’ve never had the honor of meeting John Ashcroft) Ashcroft refused to rubber-stamp all the Bush era surveillance techniques while AG for example. I think he would be an excellent candidate.
There is precedent for this: the 2010 Colorado governor’s race where former Congressman Tom Tancredo was nominated by the Constitution Party and got a respectable 36 percent!
So, Constitution Party of Missouri, maybe it’s your time: Consider a candidate like former Attorney General John Ashcroft for your nomination!
