Joint (Virginia) Republican Statement on President Obama’s Speech

  — “If our economy is to recover, government needs to get out of the way.” –

“Once again, President Obama has demonstrated that he simply has no new ideas for fixing the economy. When presented with a dire situation that calls for original thinking, the President has largely returned to his familiar playbook of bigger government and more government spending.

After running through nearly a trillion dollars on projects that turned out to be “not as shovel ready as we thought,” President Obama once again asks taxpayers to pay for a $447 billion leap of faith – promising that this time, it’s different. President Obama and Congressional Democrats seem incapable of grasping the root of our country’s continuing slump. As Einstein said, doing the same thing over again and expecting different results is insanity.

Month after month of 9.1 percent unemployment should make it clear to anyone that the old ideas don’t work. If our economy is to recover, government needs to get out of the way. Government isn’t the solution to this problem. Government is the problem.

President Obama should take immediate steps to rescind his Administration’s senseless, job killing regulations, and assure businesses that no new onerous regulations are just around the corner. Ending three years of uncertainty over tax and regulatory burdens will do more to create jobs than any new government program.”

  1. Kenny says:

Mr.White, When you suggest Government is Preventing Jobs from being created, and President Obama is killing Jobs in this country, it of course makes me wonder what you and Republicans would do. I Am under the impression from all the retoric about "Our Job Creators" that you and the GOP would remove all regulations on Big Business, and essentially, as far as regulations go, let Wall Street make their own rules. The financial collapse of 2008 was caused by just that my freind, Wall Street being unregulated and taking advantage of it, which started this recession we are still in. So when people Suggest we remove Regulations on Big Business, it leaves me puzzled. Do we want to have Another financial Meltdown? Why in the World should I Trust Wall Street and Big Business after what theyve done to our Economy? THEY Caused the Financial Meltdown, THEY Caused the Recession, THEY Caused Millions to lose their Jobs, and Life Savings. No, I Dont wanna give them the keys again, and i dont understand why you would either. Arent these Regulations essentially in place to make sure they cant do that again?

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
