LABOUR is BEGINNING to FEAR UKIP in advance of 2015 GENERAL ELECTION!

The Daily Mail is reporting that both Conservatives and Labour want to keep UKIP out of the Leader’s debate in the 2015 General Election.

The reason?  Simple fear that UKIP may take votes from Labour as well:

Labour leader Ed Miliband wants to block the UK Independence Party from having a role in the TV leader’s debates, it emerged today.

The Tories were already opposed to the idea of giving UKIP leader Nigel Farage equal status ahead of the 2015 general election.

Labour had thought UKIP would only damage the Tories’ election hopes.

But strategists now fear UKIP’s ‘brand of anti-politics could damage all three main parties in unpredictable ways,’ The Guardian reported.

My theory about British politics is that there is a “Reagan Democrat” constituency in the Labour Party.  Working class persons, mostly males, many of them union members, who supported Labour and initially supported the EU based on their understanding that a integrated Europe would protect labor rights and benefits.  The “Reagan Democrats” did not generally support Thatcher while she was in power but are patriotic Britons who agreed with her about the Falklands War and were staunchly anti-communist.  But now, the EU has regulated so much, come up with crazy ideas like prisoners voting and opened borders in ways that hurt workers in the UK.  This EU has become a threat to the “Reagan Democrat” in the UK.  I would call them “Farage Labourites”; they admire Farage and see him as a working-class hero.  It would not take many defections from Labour to UKIP to cause a political realignment; it could be the earthquake Farage says is possible.  Perhaps UKIP might be able to make a deal with the Tories as senior partner.  But that will take some significant victories.

We’ll see.  Three days to go!

PS:  There is a useful map of which party controls which counties at this site and the Tory Party has a commanding lead in areas under blue control.
