I have blogged about Raul Labrador, the congressman from Idaho (Great state to visit by the way – bought Nina a nice opal while I was there.  Beautiful place to visit.) before and I like him.  I think he’s a solid conservative who can sell the immigration package (former immigration lawyer by the way) and has the Hispanic background but not from a traditionally Hispanic state.  That could be good optics for the immigration debate.

Here’s a story in National Journal that says Labrador is thinking about a run for Majority Leader.  I agree and for whatever it’s worth (I am two for two – UKIP wins and so does Dave Brat!) I would encourage his run.  Maybe contact your Republican representative and ask him or her to vote for Labrador.

Raul Labrador is quietly considering a campaign for House majority leader, according to a source familiar with the congressman’s thinking, potentially setting up a head-to-head contest with Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy to replace Eric Cantor.

“He’s getting a lot of encouragement from other members,” the source said.

Labrador was approached by several influential conservative members Thursday morning after Rep. Jeb Hensarling announced he would not challenge McCarthy for the No. 2 spot in leadership.

I would say:  Don’t worry about if you’ll win.  You’re not there to bring pork back to your state.  So seek the job.  But do it for the right reasons:  To serve God and country.  Labrador is the best choice.

  1. I’ve been reaching out to 1st District TEA Party’s to call Congressmen Wittman’s office and ask that he support Labrador over Leadership. This election takes place next Thursday. We don’t have much time to pressure our representatives. It is important to remember that EVERY Republican with a committee or subcommittee will be under tremendous pressure to support McCarthy. Our Congressmen need to learn, as Cantor did, that there are consequences for supporting Leadership over The People.
