With almost all the precincts reporting, Gov. Bobby Jindal has won an overwhelming victory in the first primary (Louisiana elects their state and local officials through a two primary system – if one candidate gets 50% plus one vote in the first primary, that person is elected and only the second primary will occur in about a month or so.). Jindal has 67% of the vote with teacher Tara Hollis (D) has a distant 18%.
Here are the results from NOLA.com. (A great place for Saints news, too!)
Let me be one of the first to congratulate Governor Jindal. He has been instrumental in getting rid of the Huey Long era in Louisiana politics. This second and final term will be a consolidation of good practices started in his first term (unless he is asked to be the GOP running mate!) and will give the state to whoever comes next! Louisiana will be and is better off.
