LET’S try this ONE MORE TIME: INDEPENDENT SCOTLAND needs NO ONE’S PERMISSION to USE STERLING!

The No on Scotland independence campaign is continuing to tell lies to the Scottish people.

Here is the former Chancellor of the Exchequer (I always felt that was a cool title to have for a politician – its Secretary of the Treasury) Alistair Darling saying that there should be a referendum in the UK on whether Scotland can enter the Sterling currency union.

The English should have a vote on whether a separate Scotland could keep the pound, former Chancellor Alistair Darling has said.

Mr Darling – who leads the pro-union Better Together campaign – suggested that residents in the rest of the United Kingdom could seal the fate of whether an independent Scotland is part of a currency union.

Chancellor Darling, El Salvador does not have to ask us if they want to use the US Dollar; nor did Zimbabwe.  And the only was we could stop these nations from using the dollar is regime change.  (Not meant to give ideas for my neocon readers!)
Let’s turn to the unknown UK government minister who said yes there will be a currency union:

DOWNING Street was last night hunting for the UK minister whose unguarded remarks risk jeopardising the No campaign.

The search for the anonymous politician was under way as Chancellor George Osborne desperately sought to limit the damage done to the pro-Union campaign by claims that an independent Scotland would have a currency union with the rest of the UK – a direct contradiction of the No campaign’s official position.

***

Yesterday a London-based newspaper reported a UK minister as saying there would “of course” be a currency union after Scottish independence – a statement which flies in the face of Osborne’s insistence that such a currency arrangement would never happen.

The minister, who was reported to be central to the negotiations that will take place between Westminster and Edinburgh if there is a Yes vote, said: “There would be a highly complex set of negotiations after a Yes vote with many moving pieces.

“The UK wants to keep Trident nuclear weapons at Faslane and the Scottish Government wants a currency union – you can see the outlines of a deal.”

Scotland can keep the pound and everybody ought to know it.  Salmond ought to say so and reassure business that the pounds they spend in Scotland will be the same as the ones in England.  There can be a transition (I said this before too) to a Scottish Sterling that would be similar to the Canadian dollar.  The cheaper Scottish Sterling might even bring some business into the new Scottish nation.  Now, Mr. Salmond, about that hateful bill your parliament passed giving every child a social worker is one of the worst bills passed since the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.

    Writing about the Glorious Revolution of 1688, instituted by King Wlliam III the great Scottish bard Rabbie Burns said this:

    “To the British Constitution, on revolution principles, next after my God, I am most devoutly attached.”

    O let us not, like snarling curs,
    In wrangling be divided,
    Till slap! Come in an unco loun
    And wi’ a rung decide it!
    Be Britain still to Britain true,
    Amang ourselves united;
    For never but by British hands
    Maun British wrangs be righted!

    The wretch that would a tyrant own,
    And the wretch, his true-born brother,
    Who would set the mob abune the Throne,
    May they be damned together!
    Who will not sing “God Save the King”
    Shall hang as high’s the steeple;
    But while we sing “God Save the King”
    We’ll ne’er forget The People!

    Rabbie Burns was buried on 25th July 1796 with full military honours, his body dressed in the uniform of the Royal Dumfries Volunteers. Hardly the nationalist icon some would bamboozle us into imagining.

    He died as he had lived and left no doubt at all that Burns was proud to be both Scottish and British.
