Letter To Editor From Mississippi Doctor Concerning HealthCare

This is a letter to the editor of a Jackson, MS Newspaper.

Starner Jones, MD is a seventh generation Mississippian. His extracurricular interests are golf, hunting, fishing and college football.

Dear Sirs:

“During my last night’s shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer.

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman’s health care? Our nation’s health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture – a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one’s self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks “I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me”. Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow.

Don’t you agree?

I could not agree more with the Doctor. Without personal responsibility there is no freedom, only slavery. It is past time for the good people to get involved.

The provision of basic health care for every American is a moral issue and we must dispense with the practice that bases a man’s worth to live on his individual wealth.

What purpose does a government serve, if it does not exist for the common good?

We have the resources to eradicate diseases and so we should. We have the resources to establish a system of medical care for all, though with some governance, and so we should.

If, we continue to allow people to suffer and die and do so because they lack wealth, it is inhumane and it is tantamount to legal genocide. The acceptance and practice of such, without condemnation, makes us unfit to serve as the leader of the free world, and such lack of humanity makes us grossly unfit to declare ourselves as “one Nation under God, with life, liberty, and justice for all.”

Please allow me to ask an open question for Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones, what alternative or solution would you propose to the President?

Let us assume that your proposal was implemented. Based on your proposed solution, what process would be followed when the patient you described above entered your emergency room for medical treatment?

    • Joe says:

You’re absolutely right. It’s a moral issue. It may be the best thing since sliced bread. But what you and all the other whacked out liberals fail to comprehend, is that the Consitution is not about morality. It is about protecting the property and rights of the citizenry. Go ahead. Pass it. And when the cost explodes to 10 times what we’re being told, you can look at your children, and tell them you pissed away their futures because it was the moral thing to do.

so how much does this doctor for what he really doesn’t do?

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
