Liberal Lies About Iraq Being The Wrong War Comes Back To Haunt Democrats

Support for the war in Iraq was initially very strong among the American people. And the approval ratings of George W. Bush reflected this support. Needing an issue with which to smear Bush, the John Kerry campaign came up with the idea of making the Iraq war the wrong war. The enemy that attacked us were not in Iraq. Al-Qaeda was hiding in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Kerry used this thinking, along with demanding withdrawal dates, to make sure President Bush failed in Iraq.

Kerry adviser Robert Shrum admits misleading the American people to try to gain an advantage in the election in this December 2008 article in The Week:

I was part of the 2004 Kerry campaign, which elevated the idea of Afghanistan as “the right war” to conventional Democratic wisdom. This was accurate as criticism of the Bush Administration, but it was also reflexive and perhaps by now even misleading as policy. Today, we need a hard-headed examination of what’s still possible, especially in light of the India-Pakistan confrontation, which could throw the entire subcontinent into further turmoil.

Now this strategy has come back to bite them. The Democrats spent the next 4 years critical of anything and everything in Iraq, buying into the Kerry lie, which was only designed to see Bush fail and remove as much support from the Iraq war as possible.

One must wonder where these protesters are today. When Bush was president, it was deemed unacceptable to fight those who did not attack us. Barack Obama promised to fight the real enemy – Al-Qaeda. He started out going after Al-Qaeda, fair enough. But the mission has now changed. Twice, in fact.

A July 30, 2009 article in the Chicago Tribune states U.S. begins focusing drones on Taliban, away from Al-Qaida:

U.S. military leaders believe they’ve been too focused on al-Qaida in the war in Afghanistan and have begun to shift Predator drones to the fight against the Taliban and other militants to prevent the country from slipping further into anarchy.

Now, we have moved to targeting the Drug Lords in Afghanistan, according to an August 9, 2009 story in the New York Times: U.S. to Hunt Down Afghan Drug Lords Tied to Taliban

Fifty Afghans believed to be drug traffickers with ties to the Taliban have been placed on a Pentagon target list to be captured or killed, reflecting a major shift in American counternarcotics strategy in Afghanistan, according to a Congressional study to be released this week.

While cleaning up drugs and drying up financing to the Taliban, as well as killing the Taliban themselves is probably not a bad thing in the grand scheme of things, how is this any different from Bush taking out a brutal dictator and liberating Iraq?

Neither are Al-Qaeda and neither attacked us.

Why are the Anti-War Lefties now so silent?

Because you never gave a damn about our soldiers, the War in Iraq, or anyone but yourselves. Your protests were simply about causing Bush to fail.

I suppose you have now changed your minds on allowing photographs of those Killed In Action in Afghanistan to be shown. Never fear. The Right truly supports the Military and would never stoop so low as to dishonor a fallen hero by attempting to use the pictures for political gain.

Neither the left or the right really supports the troops.
While everything you just said about the left is true, you forgot to mention that the right is very selective when it comes to support for the military.
1.Atheist servicemen and women. All the kudos for military service stops dead in its tracks when a Conservative finds out that a OEF & OIF veteran is an Atheist. I know this firsthand because I am an Atheist veteran of both campaigns. Time and time again you conservatives have attacked me in the most vile ways. I feel no need to go into details about this unless you need me to but when Conservatives find out I am a OEF & OIF disabled combat veteran I am considered persona non grata.
    2. VA Disability. Over and over again I have heard you conservatives claim VA Disability is just a charity and welfare program. So a veteran puts his life on the line and is injured, and conservatives want to hang them out to dry without any help.

These 2 examples come from my discussions with Conservatives regarding my life. Many times over while the conservative may agree with me when discussing military issues, once the conservative learns I am an Atheist or that I am on VA Disability and cannot work prohibiting me from having a sustainable career, I instantly turn into that conservatives enemy. The fact is that if conservatives REALLY supported the troops they would care less what a servicemembers religion is.
