MIGHT GARY JOHNSON and RON PAUL come to CAMPAIGN on BEHALF on LIBERTARIAN ROBERT SARVIS? UPDATE: GOV. JOHNSON DID ENDORSE SARVIS!

This Fox News article on the Libertarian candidate for governor of Virginia hints at some major league campaigners:  former Governor of New Mexico and 2012 Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson, GOP senator from Kentucky Rand Paul and even maybe the liberty megahero former congressman Ron Paul!

Sarvis said his campaign is reaching out to Gary Johnson, a 2012 Libertarian Party presidential candidate and former New Mexico Republican governor, who like Sarvis supports the legalization of marijuana.

Sarvis said his campaign has yet to formally contact retired Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, whose 2012 presidential campaign inspired legions of young libertarians, and Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, whose libertarian views on the Obama administration’s use of drone strikes on Americans and the National Security Agency’s controversial surveillance program have sparked more enthusiasm for the personal-freedom movement.

Will they come to speak for the Libertarian?  Here is my speculation:  I would say that if Sarvis rises in the polls to say in the low teens, than they will be more able to come.  It will take hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to do that.  If say 50,000 libertarians can give just twenty dollars for Sarvis, that would be a cool million.  Here is the Sarvis site in case you are interested.
UPDATE:  Gary Johnson DID endorse Sarvis!  Here’s the tweet (from the Sarvis FB page!):
BREAKING! Frm: @GovGaryJohnson “Be Libertarian with me, Virginia, in 2013 and vote for Robert Sarvis for Governor.” http://goo.gl/qHGonF

According to the Robert C. Sarvis facebook page, Gary Johnson recently endorsed Sarvis.

I doubt Rand Paul would endorse (let alone campaign) for Sarvis, because it’s fairly well known/speculated that Rand is looking to become the Presidential nominee of the Republican Party. In addition, Rand endorsed Cuccinelli at the Liberty Political Action Committee in 2012. So no.

Ron Paul, who was the 1988 Libertarian Party presidential nominee, probably would endorse Sarvis save Rand’s political ambitions. Rand’s political ambition is probably the same reason Ron withheld his endorsement of Gary Johnson in 2012, even after the GOP establishment changed the nomination procedure at the Tampa convention.

    Gary Johnson – yes.
    Rand Paul – no.
    Ron Paul – doubtful.

Well done, mdh222! Thank you for coming by and I agree about Rand and Gary – but Gary Johnson had to be a bit watchful of the Sarvis candidacy that if he does too well, Sarvis might be an alternative LP Presidential candidate! (I do not think Sarvis wants to even think about doing that but he is talented enough to handle it.)

But Ron Paul might well do it and that could be a good solid way to raise some much needed funds. A lot of people would be open to paying say $50 to meet and greet with Ron Paul.

      Please come back again, mdh222!

Sandy, I’m a little confused by Sarvis. Why isn’t he running for A.G.? He has boatloads of legal experience, has been admitted to multiple Bars, founded and became editor of the NYU Journal of Liberty and Law during his School years, and has clerked on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Many voters are more willing to vote Third Party down-ballot than at the top of the ticket if they perceive that it’s more “worth it” for them to “take a chance” on a “non-viable” candidate.
