MSNBC has a fascinating article about how more and more airports are considering private companies to run security rather than the TSA:

“The TSA has grown too big and we’re unhappy with the way it’s doing things,” said Larry Dale, president of Orlando Sanford International Airport. “My board is sold on the fact that the free enterprise system works well and that we should go with a private company we can hold directly accountable for security and customer satisfaction.”

Private security in airports?  That sounds like secession from the Union or something!  But it’s legal!  (By the way, I was in Orlando Sanford airport last week and there was excellent security in that airport!)  Of course the security rules are the same.  But more and  more airports are considering an alternative to the TSA.  Ron Paul was right again; in the Fourth GOP 2008 debate, Cong. Paul offered the idea that the fact that the government banned armed pilots might have deterred the 9/11 attacks rather than allowing private companies such as airlines to protect passengers and crew:

“…we turned it over to the Federal Government and look at the mess we have now at airports.  *  *  *  Private industry protects their property all the time.  People who haul around money in armored trucks protect their money all the time.  But here is one example when the Federal Government was involved and we messed it up…”

Albert Hunt wrote for Bloomberg that the GOP Presidential election in 2012 is wide-open.  He cites the usual candidates:  Romney, Pawlenty, Gingrich, Palim, Huckabee, etc.

There is no candidate like a Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan or Bob Dole, waiting his turn as the nominee.

Hunt even found space to discuss former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Nebraska Senator John Thune but he did not cite Ron Paul.  That’s okay.  We’ll surprise them again!  Paul’s common sense libertarianism will find a fertile audience among voters in both parties and independents, too.  Is it 2011 yet?  Yes it is!
