MY INTERVIEW with FIRST DISTRICT LP CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE XAVIAN DRAPER!

Here is an interview I did some time ago with First Congressional District Libertarian candidate Xavian Draper:

I spoke over the telephone with the Libertarian candidate (provided he gets on the ballot – he needs 1000 signatures – which he feels fairly confident he’ll get 1500) for the First Congressional District here in VA:  Xavian Draper.

I was impressed with the quality of Xavian (Let me make clear that I am not endorsing any candidate yet in any Congressional election other than Dave Brat in the Seventh!) as a candidate.  He could be a solid hopeful for the GOP for example.  I cited the positive post on him at Libertarian Republican.  Xave is pro-Israel (so am I!) and is more of a national security conservative than many in the LP.  Nevertheless, Draper is very concerned about the recent vote by Cong. Wittman in favor of the indefinite detention without counsel in the NDAA.

Xave (how he goes by) is a veteran:  Lt. Col. Draper has already served 14 years in active duty and six more in the reserves.  (I thanked him for his service!)  He is not just a two weeks in the summer and a weekend once a month kind of reservist – he serves for months at a time.  While in active duty he was not very politically active, like most in the service, Xave was not political:  You serve the Commander in Chief regardless of his politics.

in 2012, Draper was a write-in candidate for Congress, the only LP hopeful.  But that was the year before Sarvis shook up the political system.  Now every district has a nominated LP candidate.  How many will reach the ballot is unclear.

Tell me about you?  Draper is happily married (sorry to all the ladies who have gone to his site!) to Amanda for the last sixteen years and they have four children – 4, 6, 7, and 9.

So how do you do it, Xave?  Do what?  Get Amanda to let you run for Congress!  Well, she also has strong convictions about things, too.

Why are you running against Cong. Wittman?  Important to him is that NDAA vote.  Xave feels that the Constitution is not being followed and the result is debt, loss of liberty and irresponsible programs like Obamacare.  He also has a spiritual and moral compass that will guide him well if he wins.

Here is Xave’s website:  www.draperforcongress.com.  Here is his Facebook page.  Contact his campaign if you want to help.

There is no word on ballot access but Draper is optimistic he turned in enough signatures.  I’ll update when I hear.
